New Linhof viewfinder at 75mm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

Anyone using the new Linhof viewfinder (cylindrical type) at the 75mm setting.? Wondering how much barrel distortion there is. The older VF with the attachment for the 75mm Biogon has a bunch of barrel distoriton. Anyone have any experience with the newer VF you would like to share. Like anything Linhof....the price is outrageous!

Richard,

My viewfinder is a later type with ability from 75mm to 360mm. At the 75mm setting, there is some barrel distortion. I would catagorize between slight to moderate. Certainly not enough to be distracting. At 90mm, the distortion is almost completely eliminated....if you REALLY look for it, you'll see it.

My model is not the very latest, which is all black. Mine was introduced with the Master Technika. Also used on the final 3-4 years of the Super Technika V. I think this model was offered into the 1990's. I don't know if the latest has any further improvements other than a more modern appearance. The glass on my version is coated.

Best of luck,

J. P. Mose

Nope, very early 80's. It is 20+ years older then the current version.

It would not be impossible for Mile High Camera to have a current one in stock so Richard could see for himself.

Richard: I have one of the latest models. It shows some barrel distortion but it does not, for me anyway, limit its usefulness. I use it for previweing and off camera and I find it a great tool for that.
