Just a notice to anyone going up Mt KEnya in the next few months Austrian Hut (the highest one near Lenana, where you might start climbing on the Normal route) is being refurbished. So you can't stay there. Although I'm sure it's possible to bivvy around or somewhere in it. Ask the guides about it before you go up.

Answers

The Parks authority have now opened Austrian hut again. It's fully refurbished and manned by a warden. Much nicer than before. You now have to pay to stay there (cost Ksh 1000, pay at the gate). Please make sure you're properly aclimatised before sleeping that high.
