Keeping dried greens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

I dried some poke and put it in a gallon jar, it drew moisture, now it's in the compost pile(yes, it was very dry, the like has the rubber ring thingy in it.) After I dry herbs like comfrey, I put them in a sack then in a plastic bag. Never had a problem. I guess I could do the greens that way, but I'd rather keep them in a jar. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, Cindy, I dry a lot of "weeds" and herbs for teas in the winter and I always use glass jars, too. After crumbling them and putting them in the jar, I tear off a piece of paper towel and put it on top as a precaution to absorb moisture if some is present. So far, it's worked. Good luck!

Curious. How do you use the dried poke?

You can grind and put in capsule for medicinal purposes. I plan on drying other greens, esp. Chinese, mixing grinding and put in soup etc.

Cindy~ I don't know where you are, but I always check to make sure the humidity is low when I open jars of dried stuff I will be re- closing, and when they're sealed the first time. It helps.
