cross a wide expanse of southeastern Europe, a trade in sex slaves is flourishing. Women, mostly from the destitute former republics of the Soviet Union, are being kidnapped or tricked into prostitution. They are brutalized and forced under threat of death to service men in lawless corners of the Balkans and the factory cities of Central Europe. Some are sold to feed the seedy sex industry of Amsterdam and Hamburg. Some are never heard from again.
