Alexander's relationship with the Macedonians during that time can only be described as intimate. He was constantly surrounded by Macedonians. He ate with them. He rode with them. He showered with them. Basically, he couldn't sneeze without a Macedonian saying, "Bless you!"

If you don't think this put a strain on their relationship, all I can say is -- you have never showered with a Macedonian.
