There is someone that I want this board to know and support. Rev. W.R. "Smokie" Norful, Jr. is a young, talented, anointed man of God. He has a new gospel CD being released as we speak. He is an ordained minister, of the gospel, in the A.M.E. Church. He is originally from Pine Bluff, Arkansas and is the son of Rev. and Mrs. W.R. Norful (St. John A.M.E., Pine Bluff).

This young man is receiving international recognition. BET featured him. I don't want us to miss out on an opportunity to pump up our own. Smokie moved to Chicago to attend seminary and is married with a newborn son.

Smokie is perhaps the most "dangerous" young man I have ever heard on an organ and singing. I has Blessed us in the AME Church throughout the years. I have recently learned that he is on the WOW 2002 Gospel track. I think he is the minister of music with Julius McAllister at Greater Institutional in CHi-Town. He performed last night at the Investiture Banquet for the Bishop's Council...if that was an indication of what can be found on his CD, then all I can say is....you better buy it! He was great and really brought the assembly into a posture of praise. I read some of the write up on him found on blackgospel.com and some traditionalist feel it is mixing r&b sounds with gospel, but I don't think you can mistake his words for anything other than what it is....praise to God...so let's support this young man!!!

I went to college with Smokie at the University of AR @ Pine Bluff. I remember him from his humble beginnings on the college campus and in the city of Pine Bluff. I always knew that he would do well in the Gospel music industry one day. It seemed that he fell off the face of the earth. Now he has made a come back bringing forth much fruit. It's been a long time coming, but I am glad that he waited for his season. I was also in Smokie's choir at YTI(emory) in 2001. Like Tamara, the first song I heard him sing was I Love The Lord; from that moment I knew he was blessed. If you don't purchase any other CD, you must purchase Smokie's debut. The title track says it all. If you ever have the opportunity to hear him live, don't pass it up. I own a lot of gospel CD's, as well as secular artist. And I tend to go through phases where I listen to all gospel, and then I won't put those CD's in the changer for 3-4 weeks again. But since I started listening to this CD I have gotten the feeling back and many of the tracks have touched me. All tracks on the CD are great, but 2,4,6, and 10 are the bomb. keep up the good work, and continue to make great music.

I am from Houston but currently residing in Arlington, Texas. I am a minister of music at my church where my father is the pastor and recording my first demo. I have a duo that consist of myself and a young lady named Destani Smith. My manager (Derrick Coleman / "D") is a music fanatic. I went to his office one day and he said I got somethig that you might like and I know you can sing. I said "Cool, let hear it." He put the CD in and put it on #4 and I immediately said who is that. He told me it was Smikie Norful and I said "D now that brother there can sang not sing sang." So I had to go and purchase the CD. I originally had the opportunity to hear Smokie from my Choir Director in Detroit, Michael E. Fletcher. We were rehearsing for a concert we were having and he asked if I thought I could minister the song. I told him to let me hear it. MANNNNN!!!! When I heard the song... now the words of the song initially grabs me. The words spoke immediately to my situation. Then the vocal arrangement.

I am a die-hard Daryl Coley "fan". I am affectionately called Daryl Jr. by some of my friends 'cause he is just SOOO awesome. Smokie... ever since that day I heard his song, All I Need off the Tommie's project, I've been searchin HIGH and low for more material of Smokie's.

Let me also say... I Need You Now... no words can express the anointing that song carries. It has been sung in praise and worship all over Detroit.

On a funny note. Smokie has come to Detroit at least 3 times this year along and each time I came within minutes of missing him. To this day, I haven't seen him in person, let alone heard him minister live. In fact at the GMWA, when Dorinda was ministering, I was sitting by Karen Clark-Sheard and after Dorinda finished her set... I left. Why did I hear from friends that I missed Smokie yet again. I could do nothing but laugh!!! One day... One day... I will see him face to face LOL!

I have been knowing Smokie in the A.M.E. church through the music ministry, since we were very young. He was featured on an album produced by my aunt, when he was 10 or 11 years old. He had the gift then and his voice was really high, and I heard him as he progressed and came into this rich, mature, annointed voice. It would amaze me when he would go before the minister and sing and just "Tear the church up!" And having worked with him in the church, I know he is called of God. As a member of the body of Christ, I find that at times my journey can be somewhat tedious. So many times, I find that my faith is tested by the certainty of the storms of life. When I originally heard "I Need You Now", a close friend was listening to it. My initial opinion was that it was nicely composed and conducted and I didn't feel the need to say much more. Well, how dare you test the word of GOD to come into your heart when you need it. Soon afterwards, I found myself having a deeply embedded desire to listen to the song in its entirety and without interruption. Upon hearing it this time, I felt the Holy Spirit begin to speak to my situation and comfort me. If you pay close attention to the words that are within the song, you can actually see Bro. Norful's heart. A heart that GOD no doubt has conditioned and truly touched. I went to the Hopeville tour two days ago in Kansas City, Mo. And to my surprise I recognized a familiar face. MR.SMOKIE NORFUL!! I was so happy. Happy for a couple of reasons 1. Because Smokie has done it! and because I know him. I told everyong sitting close to me "That's My Homeboy!!!" See, I am from Pine Bluff. I went to Jr. High, High School, College with Smokie. I am so, so happy for him. Not only can the boy sing, but he can PREACH, too!!

Smokie and I have been friends since he first moved to Arkansas. Through the years of his awesome performances in school and out, I knew that one day this young man was going to get the blessing he deserved. The last time I heard him sing before now was at my wedding back in '96. I came to hear this gifted one man of God through my friend Camisha, who works with me, she was so impressed by his vocal abilities and the depth of the songs he sung, that she gave her copy to me and said "you've got to listen to this right now. Well, I just don't know where to begin!!! I am a seventeen year old girl that lives in Stone Mountain, GA (Atlanta). My soul has truly, truly been blessed. I graduated from high school last year and have been trying to figure out exactly what it is that I wanted to do with my life. Well, my first time hearing about Smokie Norful was when he came to Montgomery for the Hopeville Tour concert with Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, and Donnie McClurkin-which was so off the chain. I'm sorry that I missed the opportunity to share in the dialogue concerning Smokie's music. However, if there's still an opportunity, I would like to congratulate Smokie on his success.

I too had the opportunity to work with Smokie when I was a member of the 12th District, Oklahoma/Arkansas that is. It was only for a short time, but I knew that he was blessed and that his ministry would go far.

The last time I saw Smokie was back in 1995 or 96 of Little Rock, Arkansas. I'm sure he barely remembers me, but I believe that we will encounter again in July of 2003 at the Lay Meeting in New Orleans... Smokie, if you're reading this stuff, all I got to say is, "Gone wid-yo-bad self"! Your CD is God sent and I often play it while I'm consulting with clients at my office.

I play gospel intentionally because first of all, it's my company and second, most of my clients are unsaved. One client in particular loved Smokie's music and she insisted on purchasing a copy..."Thank you Jesus for your ministry through gospel". Saints, I believe there will be another soul brought to Christ, therefore I gave her my copy and went and purchased another.

Smokie, if you're reading this stuff, understand that what was described in the previous paragraph is the dynamic that you should want your ministry to have. If this was your intention, which I'm sure it is, then man you're on your way.

I'd heard the "I Need You Now" song several times on the radio. And then I was blessed by his performance (ministry) at the BET Gospel Fest. He surprised my church last week, when he accepted an invitation to come and sing at our Men's Day Service. Smokie is an awesome man of God and his music is truly inspirational! Oh my, where do I start... God uses Smokie to minister to me every morning. It is like is he saying exactly what I want to say to our heavenly father with such a sweet, sweet favor! I wasn't familiar with Smokie Norful before last month. I was at my dad's funeral and one of the ladies in the choir sang the song "I Need You Now". There wasn't a dry eye in the place. While riding back in the car with my cousin she put on Smokie's cd and there was that incredible song again, just reaching so deep inside and ministering to me; I knew that only God could have inspired it. I have since purchased the CD and I have to agree with everyone else it is truly a masterpiece. Both my husband and seven year old son enjoy the cd so much, that it is the first one they reach for while driving in the car. I am just a cosumer. I don't know Smokie ona personal basis like most of you do, but I do know he's a man of God. I know he believes in God, and trusts in the Almighy. I just bought his CD, and I apologize for waiting so long. However, it is just awesome. The first time I listened to it, I was just overwhelmed by the content of the songs. My two favorite are I Need You Now and Still Say Thank You. I am a 13 year old female who would like to go into the music industry. I'm not sure if I want to enter the gospel industry or R&B, but I am just now starting to sing at church. And I believe that is where it all begins. I meet Smokie my freshman year at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; he was a senior at the time. When I heard that Smokie had been ordained as a minister I was excited that the Lord put such a blessing upon Smokie’s life. I always loved Smokie's voice. I also have Smokie's cd. It is a blessing from God. I played that song on repeat last night and it just put me right to sleep. At times we need God NOW! I believe there is power in our prayers and often we are not clear to God about how bad we need him. That song says it all. Mr. Norful is talented and gifted. I have known Smokie Ray for a number of years. When I first saw him he was playing and singing at Leadership Congress in Oklahoma. It was hard to believe that such a small child had received the anointing from God that he had received. I continued to watch him grow through the years. St. John A. M. E. Church, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Jack Robey Junior High School, Pine Bluff High School, and the entire City of Pine Bluff have truly been blessed to have had Smokie Norful to pass this way. We love Smokie and his family (Carla and Tre') and they will always be a part of us.

My 83 year old mother listens to Smokie's CD almost daily. She calls him her boy. She will call me and tell me I saw my boy on TV, when is he coming home.

My God!!! I can remember when I first heard him singing, I asked my mom "Who is That" She told me and where ever I am at and I hear his voice I know who he is. I was about to lose my promotion, my position and my job when your song came to mind. As I approached the CEO's office I started singing your song. I know God already had it worked out, but having this song in my heart and on my lips, gave me peace of mind and lifted a heavy burden off my shoulders.
