You should of broke off the flowering heads as they formed, as it takes away from your garlic bulb. Let the tops turn more yellow, but not completely. Then I usually pull and lay out in a dry shaded place.

There is alot more activity at Country style homesteading or Homesteading today. I was just looking through the old forum site out of curiosity.

I hand hardneck garlic with clothespins from rope strung across almost enclosed porch not dark but doesn't seem to hurt it. You can brain softneck garlic. Looks great.

Thank you for the help and answers. I am going to suppose that onions are the harvested the sameway. Most of my plants are failing as the clay soil is still to thick and binding. I have amended it but alas it appears that it need more amending. Grapes are doing OK, but the blueberries and strawberries are having a hard time establishing themselves. I haven't looked into the country style homesteading site, nor do I look into the homesteading today site as it loads to slowly and I am on metered service as all calls from here are long distance; and do not have the time to wait for the site to load. I am sure that it is a good site, but it is to expensive for me to peruse. Have a good day.
