Difference between 545 & 550 polaroid film holders?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : polaroid transfers : One Thread

I am about to purchase the DayLab 35 + for making image transfers and have found out that I need to purchase the 4x5 sheet film holder separately. I have done a little research online at/polaroid & calumet sites but cannot seem to figure out what, if any, the differences are between the 545 and 550 film holders besides the price?

Does anyone have any info or suggestions to share with me?? Thanks, Cary

The differences are that the 550 film holder is a pack film holder (550 film), and the 545 is a sheet film holder (545 film). Pack film comes in a pack, and is considered much easier for the beginner to handle. With sheet film, you load and expose each sheet individually (as prof'l photographers might print out proofs). There's a rumor that Polaroid may cease production of the 550 pack film within the next few years, so the main disadvantage to buying the pack film holder is that the film may not be available five years from now.

A little correction: 545 is for pack film. 545i is for sheet film. 550 is for pack film. See the polaroid site for details.
