Savannah, Georgia SAL marine slips on the Savannah River

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Does anyone know when exactly the SAL railway slips were built on the Savannah River (on Hutchinson Island)? I believe it was about 1900. Most of them have been developed, but one remains that we recently did an archaeological survey of. Anyone have any ideas, pictures, information regarding the slips? Thank you!! Norine

Poor's Manual for 1901 says that the Georgia & Alabama Railway (a predecessor to the Seaboard Air Line Railway) ceased using the terminals of the Central of Georgia Railway and began using the facilities of the Georgia & Alabama Terminal Company (Hutchinson Island)on July 1, 1900 (the same date, coincidentally, that the Seaboard Air Line Ry exercised control of the company.) This would indicate that the facilities were newly constructed, likely beginning late in 1899 and completed in the first half of 1900.
