Update on DH's recovery

The doctor is very pleased with his progress. DH can get rid of the splint on his wrist and was put in an air splint and a regular shoe for his ankle and can get rid of the heavy cam walker :)

They still aren't sure he will ever be able to go back to running heavy equipment 10 hours a day 6 days a week or drive an 18 wheeler. Time will tell, but his attitude is good and he is improving every day.

i know both you and DH would probably deck me if you could reach me right now, but sometimes these awful accidents turn out to have a platinum lining.

I don't know that I would have that good of an attitude after such a huge blow--I was up half the night worrying and PO'd because I can't get enough done and, of course, now I'm too tired to do much of anything. I did get up at 4 and put up two more pieces of wallpaper in the bathroom, though, so at least I feel as if I've accomplished SOMEthing. Maybe after I take a long nap I can put the final two pieces up and neaten up the edges before I start on sanding the vanity and door.

I don't envy your DH trying to get back in the swing of things. It sounds as if it's going to be a long, slow process. I hope his attitude stays upbeat--yours too!!! I bet it hasn't been easy.

beckie, that's great news, and an inspiration to the rest of us.

Good news, beckie. A positive attitude can make a huge difference.

Sounds like a miracle healing. Or at least, a miracle attitude that both of you share.

do your best not to lose it.

Congrats to you both!

Beckie -- good to hear from you! I hope the summer gets progressively better for you both. I'm thinking of your area a lot this week: Helen (?) (Eldon's wife) Proctor passed away recently in Osceola -- your area lost a tireless worker for the elderly!

OG -- RELAX! Wish I were there. I'd make you some tea and be your legs and arms. I know it's frustrating. Easy does it.

Thanks everyone.

OG - take it easy. The house doesn't have to be perfect to sell.

I know what you mean about the platinum lining. There are a lot of good things happening because he isn't able to work. I know there is a major change in direction in our lives coming -- just not sure what it is, but the signs are all there.

We just got back from SD where DH met with his daughter that he hasn't seen for many years (very long ugly story). She is expecting her first baby in Oct and had called him out of the blue before the accident and wanted for them to get to know each other. It was a good week-end. If he hadn't been so rested and had an change in his outlook on life, there still would have been some bad feelings, but there weren't any and it was great.

Oh, even after all this work it won't be anywhere near perfect (giggle, giggle). I just remember a lot of the comments from the last go-round--several prospects complained it was dark in here (paneling). So I'm painting the ceilings bright white. I don't think they've been painted for 10-20 years and there must have been smokers in here. I'm also going to paint the darkest paneling in the master bedroom, that should make it look a lot bigger and brighter. Others said they were bothered by the fact that I had pets (! - oh, these people!!!) and so I want to make sure nothing looks remotely dingy or grubby. I don't think it did last time, I cleaned for four solid hours before anyone came over, but I'll have even more brightness this time. I also have more lamps in here with higher wattage bulbs.

So very glad to hear DH had a pleasant time with his daughter. I hope that's not the last of it. I guess we have another major direction change coming up too; scary but exciting at the same time. One of the things that sometimes happens when you get hurt that badly is it makes you less afraid. You no longer fear getting hurt because you already did and survived it! I guess it's the Evil Kneivel syndrome in a way!
