Stupid weedeater!!!!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I'm about to throw the razzlefrazzle thing across the yard! I need any suggestions before a rip it all apart, and inspect innards.

The mix is right. 40:1 It starts fine. The filter if fine. It's not sputtering, and seems to be getting gas just fine.

It has no oomph, no torque, no full-power-zippity-zip.

Maybe it's bad gas? Or moisture in the tank. Can I throw carb cleaner or heat or some such in there or what?

empty the tank, pour it upside down or something, change the sparkplug. refill with "new" gas mix. make sure the choke is operating correctly. Beyond that, they are usually throw aways,, once there go bad,, it isnt worth fixing the engine,, cheaper to replace. Ive found a few,, (7 or so) weedeaters that had nothignwrong besides bad gas or a stuck choke

Patty, I'm no mechanic at all, but the other day mine was acting up and this worked for me....warning...I don't know the names of these parts so I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

By the carburator there is an exposed screw head, flat headed, start the weed eater, then take a screwdriver and turn the screw in the way that will make the engine go faster. Techinical huh? :) The engine on mine was running slow and when I adjusted this screw, it worked fine. Hope this helps! :)

Annie,, what you did was adjust teh air flow,,, which mean you may need a carb cleaning,, could try running some gumout or carb clean with it. It could help Patty,, but Id try the ones I mentioned jsut the same

Thanks y'all!

I was hoping I wouldn't have to drain the tank, and get new oil and fuel. It did start acting up with this new mix, thinking it could be the brand of oil(?), it's one I've never used and was cheap. I thought I mixed it wrong, but triple checked, and no. The fuel comes from the same place I always get it, so I doubt it's that. Darn.

I really hope these suggestions work! I've got poke, jimson weed, and other various sundries left in some of the bigger paddocks/pens. I rotate pasture and species as a management thing, and need to put some critters back in.

My riding mower is busted as well....*siiiiigh*.

THIS REALLY IS A QUESTION.. HAVE A HOMELITE WEEDEATER ---- RIGHT HAND THREAD---THAT I CAN NOT GET THE SPOOL HEAD OFF.. BOLT IN CENTER WON'T LOOSEN..PUT WD40 ON EVERY PART OF THE SPOOL HEAD AND THE BOLT AND STILL ON LUCK... WOULD LIKE TO SAVE THE 26.00 FOR A NEW SPOOL HEAD IF I DON'T BREAK IT ..ANY IDEAS

"bolt head" ? is this the type of head that you bounce/hit on the ground to advance the thread? If so, dont try to "unscrew" it, just pull it off. Then it should show you the retaining ring fo the head. Can be of many differant designs., Some may be a ring, some may be a clip that you can depress with your fingers. Since its a HOMELIGHT,, you cna go to SEARS, and demand to see their manual on it,, to so your own repairs.

Check the flywheel magnets and armature for rust! If they have any rust on them, clean them gently with emery cloth or fine sandpaper. I had the same problem with mine. After doing this it stars on the first pull every time and has tons of power. I almost sent it to the dump now it runs as good as new! My dad gave me a Lawnboy that would not run, I did the same to it and it started on the first pull for several years until I gave it to someone else.
