This is what I don't understand...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : domestic violence : One Thread

I can accept that some men are abused by their partners (even if legitimate studies show that the numbers of women being abused are FAR higher-- for example the #1 injury cause of injury death for women is domestic violence and for men it's something like #78). But what I cannot accept is men's rights groups suing battered women's programs for access. Women have been fighting since the 1960s to establish and get funding for shelters and community-based programs for battered women. Why don't men's rights groups do the same for abused men instead of trying to piggy-back on the hard work women have done for themselves?

The simple answer is that the "legitimate" studies all show that domestic violence is about equal between the sexes. False stats are often generated from police arrests and shelter surveys. Other surveys were conducted only asking women questions, not men. The politics behind the shelter movement are designed to get money for women only even if a large amount comes from the general public. Suing shelters is a great idea because refusing male victims is no different than refusing women. A victim is a victim. Good luck to those suing.
