A Dime's Worth in the early 1900s

I am trying to find out how much was a dime worth in the early 1900s (1900-1930 ballpark)...Was it like having $20 today? $50?

Thanks for your help!

A dime is still woth exactly ten cents.

In 1905, five dollars a day was considered a good wage for a journeyman carpenter (for a ten hour day!). Doing the math, that translates to fifty cents an hour. Taday a carpenter in that same area is lucky to get fifteen dollars an hour, so.... even though a dime is still worth ten cents, the buying power of that 1905 dime is about three dollars in todays market.

Food for thought? Here is a link that gives a good idea about the cost of food from 1890 to 1970.
