,, while looking for some power for my DC fridge,, I found a source for some used golf cart batteries,, 35 bucks a peice, HAVE to buy all six (a set). I priced new batteries,,,, so this doesnt sound too bad. Would like your opinion for prices in your area on these. ALso,,, when CS was "CS",, someone posted about replaceing the rechargable internal batteries for things, like cordless drills and such. I searched for the posting but cant find it. Does anyone have that link? Or know of another source?

When we bought ours they were $37.00 each plus tax at a Sams Club in Wisconsin(1999). Now the one's you may be getting may be more powerful or have a higher storage capacity so with the time difference they probably aren't a bad buy.

A couple ideas...if you are not far from Mexico, you might consider taking your old batteries there to have them "rebuilt"...a nasty toxic process that gets another year or two out of dead batteries by melting and reforming the lead plates after cutting the top of the battery off, and then resealing the rebuilt plates in the battery with new acid.

A lot of chemical plants/refineries have UPS systems with banks of batteries that are taken out of service and replaced every few years to ensure reliability of the UPS systems....Visit some plants in your area and inquire about salvage rights of old batteries...should be free for the taking as there is a disposal charge that would be avoided.
