OSAMA'S SON RISES IN THE FAMILY BIZ By NILES LATHEM

July 30, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Osama bin Laden's son Saad has been placed on the Pentagon's hit list of most-wanted terrorists after new intelligence identified him as an emerging power within al Qaeda, officials said. U.S. counterterrorism officials said captured al Qaeda operatives have told interrogators that Saad bin Laden is taking a prominent role in reorganizing his fa- ther's terrorist network in the wake of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.

His name appears with 24 other most-wanted Taliban and al Qaeda leaders in a war room at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Fla.

Saad, thought to be in his late 20s, is one of 23 bin Laden children - most of whom are young and living outside Afghanistan.
