Odd happenings......ghosts?

Here ya go Bren! :-)

This really isn't much of a ghost story, if it is one at all......? It was a strange experience.

When I first bought my farm many many years ago, I was but a babe. And a suburban brat at that. I had always dreamed of living in the country, and the first chance I got, I bought an old place and never looked back. I was lucky to have grown up in a rural subdivision where I could explore fields, woods and even board a horse within walking distance. I guess that and later living nestled in the mnts. of New Hampshire birthed a lasting love of a quieter way of life.

Anyway, the farmhouse was definately a fixer upper! (STILL, a work in progress all these years later! lol) I decided to keep my place in town for an extra month in order to be able to refinish the floors, paint, etc. The very first night I nestled down on a mattress on the floor under a window thrown wide, with the cool breeze blowing in and the night sounds, I felt like I was in heaven. I dozed off with a small smile on my face.

I was awakened with a jolt, by a ear splitting screech. I've never heard a banshee, but if I had to guess, it would sound like that! It came from the back of the house, to the south. But close, just outside. I sat bolt upright, eyes wide in the dark. Then again to the west, then north, then right outside of my window to the east. Then it was a chorus from all sides! Like screaming, wrenching pain, but also like hysterically insane womens laughter. A very scarey sound! It lasted maybe 5 minutes, a constant cresendo, then all was dead silent, even the peepers were still. I thought it was coyotes perhaps? I asked around and some said a coyote in heat can sound very like what I described.

It has never happened again. I've heard many a coyote since then, it has never come even remotely close to the sounds I heard that night. Not EVEN close. But who knows?

The other wierd thing about my house, as I said, is the bathroom faucet turns on and off by itself. It's just that one. Maybe it's the pressure or something? I've replaced the faucet three times. ???

Ok, now lets hear yours!

Answers

ever hear a barn or screech owl?? TALK ABOUT A STRANGE NOISE ! ! ! combination of a women blood rething scream, and a banishing dieing in the sunlight.

Bobcats during mating season are right up there for sounds that make the hair stand up on your arms. Once you hear it you'll never forget it!

I had a Nubian who could turn the door knob with her mouth to get in the house . But screech owls or bobcats turning on and off the faucets , I'd have to see it to believe it .

I just never could get past the encircling the house thing. If it was coyotes (or whatever ?), why would so many deliberately do such a thing? It would have had to have been 12 or more (!?).....could be a territorial thing I suppose, still....dubious. Glad it only happened the one time! LOL

Patty, Our house in Wisconsin(138 yrs old)has some friendly spirits. We've been gone for over three years now & the power is turned off at the meter. Our son & DIL went to the old homeplace about 3 months ago (DIL's 1st visit)after Cody unlocked the door he went back to the car to get some luggage while Jess went inside. From his account she came running back out telling him there was someone upstairs & she could hear music! He laughed to himself but to appease her went upstairs to see who the 'intruder' was(he already knew) after they went through every room & every closet only to find nothing he told her that since we moved into that house in 1983 we'd been hearing singing/music at least a couple of times a week. I always found it comforting & never threatening but to a new person who had no idea what to expect I suppose it was scary.:) I had always hoped that a spirit would take up residence that loved to clean houses but no luck-mine just liked to sing.LOL Oh,by the way there are two babies graves on the property so that just makes it more interesting - maybe the mother is coming back to sing to them. Have you ever tried talking to them, maybe meditate/concentrate on communicating with them to find out what's going on? It may sound crazy but I did attempt to communicate with mine on a regular basis, letting them know I meant them no harm & expected the same from them. I don't know if it helped but we never had any problems with having them as guests. Do you have any idea if there are any graves on your place or what the history of the land may be- that might help give you an idea as to what/who is making the strange sounds. Let me know if you would like me to look into some other methods of communicating with them.

Patty -

I've never heard a banshee, but have heard panthers, coyotes, and screech owls. They can sound pretty bad. I've never 'seen' anything close to a ghost either but the first house my ex and I lived in had some weird things going on. It was a big old farm house on a couple of acres that town had surrounded. The laundry room and bathroom were in what used to be the back porch. 'Something or someone' was constantly turning the water off at the washing machine. You'd have to turn it back on two or three times a week. Wasn't scary feeling though. I think you can tell what kind of memories were made in a house by the way it feels. That old house had good memories. On the other hand, when I was in highschool I lived with my older sister and we moved into a big old house that diffinitly harbored bad memories or something. Sis had two little ones, 3 & 4. These were rowdy little kids and they wouldn't stay in the house unless someone was with them, but they weren't afraid to play outside. The four year old used to wake in the middle of the night always the same time I woke up with a scared feeling. We never did figure out what was wrong there, the house burned one day while we were outside.

This forum is starting to resemble the TV program Sightings. I think it was some time in the 1960's that the word ghost was replaced by the word spirit. Even in the Catholic religion , the holy ghost , became the holy spirit. Anyway , my spirit story goes back to my teen days. I left the east coast when I was 19 . I was going to Oregon to live in a cabin in the woods. I had only a couple hundred dollars ,no knowledge of the woods ,no idea what Oregon looked like. But I was determind to go to Oregon and live in a cabin in the woods. Well after a few months camping and meeting people, I get turned on to a cabin on BLM land that some guy had a mining claim on and let a bunch of people live on and they built cabins .Someone had left this cabin and the people who lived on the claim wanted to make sure someone didn't move in that might be a threat. I was screened and approved to live there by the 11 other households . So I'm living in this dirt floored cabin with a tin wood stove , constructed out of poles , ruff cut planks for the walls , a cardboard sheeting with roll roofing paper for the roof and clear 6 mil see through plastic sheeting stretched on frames for windows, and a hanging army blanket as the door .. The place I lived had a dark history. 1500 chinese men used a primitive water pump that pumped water from the river up a hill to wash away soil with the water to mine gold. This was in the 1800's. After they were finished and had their gold packed and ready to transport it, they were ambushed and killed by the white people who lived there and their gold stolen . They were left by the theives unburied. I think there was a preacher who supposingly buried the dead Chinese men . This was recorded local history ... The cabins were spaced out far enough that everyone had privacy from each other. The closest cabin to mine was about a 10 minute walk on small foot trails. It was a cold December night .I had a candle lit but it didn't give off much light . I was listening to the radio that only picked up stations at night . About 10 pm I heard knocking on my plastic window. I thought one of my neighbors had come over to hang out. I got my flashlight to see who was out my window. At this time I heard the knocking again , but I can see with the flashlight that no one was out there but the plastic window is moving with the indent of a closed fist in the center. The little hairs on the back of my neck felt like they were gonna pop off my scalp. I stared at the window and it happened again. I pick up my blanket and walk over to the nearest cabin and asked if I could crash there for the night. Before that night the only thing I feared in those woods was the thought of a brown bear looking for food might walk through my army blanket door and I'd wake up with the bear licking peanut butter off my beard , my then, favorite snack food which I ate before going to sleep.

Heh heh Kathy! Guess we would scare their lil bunzies off. :-)

I was working security late in the morning around 3am. I am at a construction site out in the country next to the woods. At this time I heard the freakest noise in the world, immediatly I thought it sounded like a deamon followed by a a weird laughing. It scared the crap out of me. It lasted for about 5 minutes, I had no idea what the heck it was. I have never heard a coyotey before, but have seen them. When the foreman arrived in the morning I told him about the noise. He told me there was a family of coyotes living next to the site. It sounded just like you described. As for the faucet, GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JK.

I've heard that fox can make some strange sounds too. I heard a screeching sound outside my house I used to live in out in the country and I asked someone about it. I jokingly said "that's how a Teradactyl would sound if it were flying around."

-- Della (wyly@yahoo.com), February 22, 2003.

Psychosis can now be treated with medicine , check with your psychiatrist , he/she's got all sort of goodies to prsescribe to make all the noises and visuals go away .

<< " I've replaced the faucet three times. ??? " >>

They even have medicine that stops the faucets from turning on and off.

Well... i'm not sure what to say, Patty... it *could* be a ghost... the faucets being turned on & off are a fairly good indication.

As for me... i work at a theatre that has a plethora of ghosts (the land is really old, and i think before the theatre was there it was a farm... up into the 50's or 60's) A few ghosts, however, are very interested in talking to people... which is fine, but i've no idea how to hear/sense what they're saying... i can talk *at* them all day, but i'd like to be able to carry on a conversation, ya know... Does anyone have any ideas how to hear what they're actually saying?

-- Samantha (wikkid_gothbabe@yahoo.com), August 12, 2003.

Have you ever tried writng your conversation on a peice of paper then leaving it in the theatre for a while? maybe the spirits would write some thing back? My frind tried this once at her house which had a few spirits.
