Are there any young people who read this board?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Every great social movement began with a young person. Including our own denomination. I was wondering if we have young people who read the board. We would love to hear from you and hear what is going on in your church. There is much to learn from all of you!! Thanks and a special welcome to 17 year old Eboni who has posted in another thread. P.S Thanks for putting up with us older folks;-) (A disclaimer Bill Dickens is not old;-)

I am 26 years old and I attend Oak Grove A.M.E. in Detroit, MI where Dr. Robert Brumfield is my Pastor. There is always something going on at the "Grove" as we call it. Tonight our men's choir New Dimensions is hosting the Men's Choir from St. Matthew AMEC in Orange, NJ. Back in April our Liturgical Dance Ministry hosted there 1st conferece where Richard Smallwood was a special guest and earlier this month the Master's Men our men's ministry hosted an Arts and Taste Fest.

Brother Hogan wow!! Your church sounds fabulous, I am so happy that you are on the board. What was Rev. Smallwoods concert like? I wish I could have been there. My daughter heard Rev. Donnie Mclurkin at the 5th district mid year and said he was fabulous. Keep posting!!

I am 27 years old and I attend Emmanuel AME Church in San Antonio, TX. I am trying to get something started at our church for our young adults 18 and up and I would like to see what other churches are doing. I hope that some of the other churches will share...

Good Morning all, The transition and Plan of Action Committee of the RAYAC led on by Derak Anderson, Vice President had an excellent meeting and sharing session Nashville at the End of August. Look for a new look for the RAYAC in the Fall/winter 2002/2003. The Officers and Committe chairpersons of the RAYAC is planning a retreat in early December to prepare for the kick-off of Young Adult ministries in 2003.

For updated information on the rayac please look at the hotlinks of RAYAC at: http://ameced.com/index2.html. Also email your comments, suggestions to rayac@chrisitanemail.com -- I read the emails daily -- so please mail, mail, mail.

May God Bless and Keep you.

Jerry Turner, Jr. Connectional President RAYAC

*An information brochure is in the process of being developed watch for it on the website in January 2003.

Hello Bro. Turner I did look at the RAYAC page on the Christian Education Web site. I was greatly surprises that we consider young adults between the ages of 26 and 39. What about college students, and other young professionals whose needs are very different from those of teens. I think most young people would have very little in common with someone who is 39. Our young adult group is targeting college age to 26. And it is working for the young people have more in common. Those who are in their mid thirties and upward are usually married with children. I would love to hear your thoughts regarding the age dilema and the thoughts of others on the board. Thanks
