Drama Review

My brother and his wife have just returned from England, where they had a wonderful time. While visiting friends living outside of London, they went to see Othello, performed by a local group. They thought the acting was OK, though nothing special.

The local paper sent a cub reporter to review the play, a departure for her from her usual routine at the paper. She thought the acting was wonderful, and that it was too bad that the play was an inadequate vehicle for such talent. In fact she thought the play was pretty bad, what with flaws such as "shallow characterization."

They just don't make 'em like they used ta, Peter. The old standards have been even more eroded in the UK than here. Very sad. The irony is that people today are far more shallow than they used to be, especially when compared to those in Shakespeare's time when intrigue and survival politics were being developed into an art form by the Elizabethans.

Brooks, I did too. (Many reasons, including some really funny Tom Stoppard dialog.)
