!A Horribly Offending Experience

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Domestic Violence Accounts : One Thread

The purpose behind this posting is sheer disgust. In surfing the web just yesterday, I came across a site which actually promotes the physical abuse of men...and even offers different methods with which to slap your husband, etc.! As a former victim of spousal abuse myself, it pretty much outraged me! This particular site shows various galleries of men's faces being slapped (altough I couldn't make it past the first page without gagging). I'm just wondering how trash like this is possibly permitted on the worldwide web! I am hoping you all are interested in attempting to get the site shut down, etc. The address is http://www.montenegrovideo.com/ohrf2e.htm. Please do as I have and flood this horribly offending site's email (available at the bottom of the page) with disapproving remarks (to put it politely).

If enough people work together, hopefully we can work towards preventing horrible sites such as this from reaching public view...

But, I will warn you....it's despicable...

Actually I'd rather this kind of stuff remain visible. It's good to know who thinks what. Actually I like the world wide web. It gives us, I think, a better reflection of the various cultures which created it than just about any other type of recording. And that's the key -- if your goal is change, then you need to know where you are starting from. Rather than flooding the offending sites e-mail account with filler, perhaps a campaign to flood sites like these with the various things that you find on this site, accurate statistics, true stories of abuse, and so. Maybe it will make a difference, probably it won't. But it has a better chance of success than either trying to suppress ideas like this (which just drive them underground and out of the public's eye so they can be monitored) or flooding the e-mail simple disaproving remarks. Consider it a chance to be an advocate for change!

Heath, I think this site you mention is appalling and the person who replied to this posting straight before me needs to hear this!!

Women get abused every day but it is men as well. How can you condone this by saying 'men should be afraid'. This is sick behaviour from someone who I assume may have experienced DV. How would you like it if I said to you, 'well it doesn't matter, you should just stay afraid of your husband'. I understand that you may have a tainted view of men, as do I, but condoning abuse of any sort is sick and you need to get counselling if you really think this way!

Thanks for the posting Heath, I will be sending a strong e-mail to this site
