Hi Marina,

U can go to Penisular Shopping Centre located near City Hall MRT (Tube) where there's many shops selling such items. Shop around and ask for the prices and also whether what accessaries are included.

Try also Mustafa located in Serangoon (little india). They have a good range of price but not very huge range or cameras.

Beware or try not to go to shops in Lucky Plaza or Sim Lim Square.. I am a local and have tasted these unprofessional and bad dealers. They will usually name a low price but will sell the accesseries in a high price!

Most of the 3 mp cameras with 3x zoom range around S$800 to S$1000. However the latest high zoom cameras come from Fujifilm (FUJI-FinePix S304 )and Olympus (OLYMPUS-C 730-UltraZoom}. They are priced below S$1000 and they are the new models. Smaller shops away from Orchard Road areas allow some discount. There are shops especially in Penisula Plaza offer lower prices without warranties. Shop around and you will get a bargain. Bargain if you must. If you have decided on a product and you know that the price cannot be further lowered, ask for discount for accessories like memory storage cards. They might oblige because you're bundling the purchase. Good luck and have fun.

Gents watch out for some shops in Sim Lim Square. The concern here is if you are really buying a brand new camera from one of these shops? There have been cases that their popular customers had made purchase of cameras, using it for 3 to 4 weeks and returned back to the shop and next moment back to the shelf and ready to sell you brand new again.

I am from SriLanka and visted S'pore 3 times in the past. I agree with the people recomending Mustafa for honest prices though the range may be limited.

I had a bad experience with shop called 'Orchard Mid point' in 1998. I was looking for a Cannon EOS and they quoted a lesser price than most other places (even mustafas). But they convinced me to buy a Minolta Dynax 500si & a Telezoom + Flash.. and I trusted them with the prices they quoted after a little bargaing.

Later on the same day I found out that they have overquoted the price compared to mustafa's and many other places. Later they settled to Xchange for a more powerfull Telezoom.

The moral of the story is 'Never tell them the model that you are intrested if you are doing a price comaprision between shops on the onset.'

I will be arriving in Singapore soon on the way to Australia. I have looked at digital cameras here in UK (Cambridge) and have been recommended the following:

Pentax Optio 450 @ £410 (about S$1100) or Olympus Mu 300 @ £300 (about S$800)

Can anyone tell me how much they would cost in Singapore and/or a recommended outlet.

Thanks

Beware of blacklisted companies in Sim Lim Square..i don't recommend Hitachi retail store(under Nab Nab Trading)..it's not only blacklisted but the sales assistants are VERY impolite..some shops at peninsula shopping complex offer good prices..do survey prior to purchase

I'm currently in KL, Malaysia (Kualu Lumpur) looking at digital cameras. There is also a digital camera "fair" going on here! Can anyone tell me if prices are that much better in Singapore? Nikon CoolPix 3700 is currently going for 1488 RM with two memory cards: 1 at 16mb and the second at 256mb. 3.7= $1 US Also can you tell me how to find Mustafa's? Thanks! MCM

I will be travelling from Australia to Vietnam via Singapore in February 2004. I want to pick up a Digital Still camera but want to know if it's worth my while haggling in Singapore or buy at home. Reasons:- - It seems the 'duty in Aust is only 10% (incl warranty) - New Years sales will be on soon (Jan 04) - Some web sites offer prices cheaper than some duty free stores

What sort of percentage (%) can I expect to save in Singapore???

Cheers
