Leonard, Thanks for alerting us to the fact that the alerts had been disabled! I think this is related to the fact that the servers that run this site only get minimum attention. See:

However, when I set up our discussions on this server, it was because I liked the simplicity of the layout and the fact that it was possible to see a whole discussion on the same page under one heading, rather than having to look at each contribution on a separate page, as is the case with many discussions. And anyway, I am a regular visitor to the www.photo.net site that was also set up by Philip Greenspun using the same software... This has become the biggest photography site on the web.
