LOS ANGELES - An earthquake measuring 4.6 shook southern California early on Tuesday, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The earthquake, which was centered 3 miles north of Yorba Linda, a town about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, was felt across a wide area just after midnight.

Residents calling local TV stations spoke of items falling from shelves, but there were no reports of injuries or damages.

The 4.6 magnitude quake struck at 12:08 a.m. and was preceded by a smaller quake measuring 2.6, according to U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones.
