Hair question..

...there a question!! Just jokin'! I really do have a hair question. What would cause a 5 yr. old's hair to start breaking off within about 2 or 3 inches of the scalp? Her hair is just below shoulder length. Is this a protein defficiency or some other nutritional problem?? Thanks for any info!!!

Does the hair seem to be breaking off in clumps or just scattered over her head? My first thought when I hear about hair breaking off is ringworm. It's not that uncommon in children that age, I remember my brother had it when we were kids.

Sherri, it's scattered all over her head...mostly around the top. She's not going bald, of course, but it's just become quite noticable especially when the sunlight shines through it. She's blonde and has rather fine hair. I always thought that children's hair was naturally healthy, but the fact that we all have to "work" to get her to eat meat has me wondering about the hair problem and if there is a connection!! Her mother has told me that she hasn't done anything drastic to her hair lately, like perms or whatnot, and she still uses a chidren's shampoo.
