Over the fence chat for the week of 9-9-02

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

My goodness, are the weeks flying by or what!!! The pig went to the butcher, we are all done with the chickens except for one young rooster and chores are seeming very light. I am only milking one goat in the evening now and 5 in the morning.

Fall is rapidly closing in, although we have had temps in the 90's this weekend.

We attended a wonderful revival this weekend and I am going to be cutting back a bit on my internet participation, as I really do feel that it takes a great deal of time that I could be using more fruitfully. Take care all and have a blessed week.

I have 2 broody hens right now quarreling over 5 chicks. I don't know if those last few eggs will get hatched or not: The first hen had her eggs hatch over a period of 3 days, and since the remainder of her eggs are in the incubator I don't know if they are done hatching or not. The chick that hatched last night is with the other broody hen, who's eggs haven't yet hatched, as it isn't strong enough to keep up with it's siblings.

I'm still elbow deep in tomatoes. Making hot sauce, putting up pickles, okra and green beans this week. I made my pickled green tomatoes, some peach jam and still have a few ducks to get ready for the freezer. The pigs won't be ready to butcher til the end of October. I love the cool days we're having, anything under 90 is cool! This summer just flew by, I guess winter will too.
