Transporting Pregnate Does

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

Hello everyone.. been reading the posts here for some time and I've found I need assistance myself.. I'm purchasing two recently bred does out of state and will have to leave them there untill we move (whenever that is!) and I wanted to know how far along into the pregnancy would it still be safe for them to travel (aprox 9 hours) without over due stress.. and if it happens that we can't pick them up untill after they kid, when would it be safe to transport the whole gang? Thank you so much in advance for your help!

I was hoping someone more experenced would anwser this so take everything with a grain of salt. I know some that it dosen't matter if they need hauled they move them. We try not to within two weeks of birth or after. Use a ton of straw and drive easy. It sound like you have a long haul so the more time before or after would be better.
