Can anyone give me information of the history of the Pacific Hieghts district or Balboa Reservoir in San Francisco? Please also include where I can find pictures, too!

Pacific Heights gets plenty of attention in the Guidebooks. Almost any guidebook has a decent capsule history.

For more detail you might consider the Architectural Histories. I like the "San Francisco Archicture" by Woodbridge which does a good job with Pacific Heights. They also give a good sample of Photo Ops.

About the Reservoir. One of the mystries of present day technology and engineering is that we need less reservoirs than we used to. The city is rather closed mouthed about Reservoir details-- security, etc.

Soon after the reservoir was finished it was declared "surplus". Riordan High School and City College parkers were the beneficieries.

Good Luck in your research.

For Pacific Heights pictures check out the online photos offered by the SF history center of the SF Main Library. Pacific Heights is listed as a "district" I believe. Also, search on street names. The online archive of California has pictures too. I access it through the Bancroft Library and use their California Heritage digital finding aids. Again, try street names as search terms, or even "pacific heights." Also, searching for "artistic homes" will turn up some hits you might find interesting.
