I go there pretty much every day to check the different homesteading & gardening boards. It has gotten really nasty-name calling back & forth, some pretty racist remarks, Republicans against Democrats, Conservative against Liberals & moderates, being told to leave or go somewhere else if your opinion doesn't follow everyone elses on a topic, on & on. It has even happened on the Country Families board which usually is pretty well behaved. They still bring up your name occasionally, if something goes wrong they believe you have somehow 'invaded' their space. Ardie-so you remember her?- said the other day that she misses you and that you had never given her any grief. Joel is still on his rants and gave this long post regarding you. His posts are getting much more militant IMO but that's his choice. Well, that pretty much sums up their boards; much more hate, intolerance, racist undertones, Bible posts, etc. I like this one much better, I just wish it were more active. Maybe once winter sets in and folks have more time it will pick up. At least here I can ask a question or offer an opinion and no-one yells at me.

Kath,, if ANYONE "yells at you" on this forum,, Let Me Know ! !! . (:P)

Last time I went there,, some people were getting "blamed" as being "me", a couple where even using my email.

If you "see" Ardie,, tell her she is most welcome here,, as well as any others. I also wish Patty would post more,, (and IM me on occassion ,,LOL)

They have made up again over there. A new quarrel breaks out every couple of weeks and then they sort it out.

I've been "visiting" on Chuck's forum...maybe two or three times since he took over. Just too much going on over there for me. I like the Lusenet set up and these forums MUCH better!! Haven't spent enough time over there to know what's going on in the "bickering" department!!!. I do plan on being here more often...and at a few other Lusenet forums as soon as my garden slows down and all the butchering is done :-)!!

Kathy, do you post on that forum as "KY guest"? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, it was just a hunch I had. :)

I actually got to meet Joel Rosen in person this summer, it was quite an interesting experience. He's much younger than I imagined. He talks quite the talk but....

Just today someone called me a Nazi sympathizer because I don't support the coming war with Iraq. I try to throw in an alternative viewpoint now and then an an attempt to keep a little balance over there. There's a few new names over there who are quite strident in their views and not much inclined to listen to anyone who doesn't conform to their version of the status quo. I was quite pleased that so far the Halloween thread has stayed civil, maybe there's hope yet.

I go there on occasion. I noticed they had a collection going for Chuck to give him a $500 savings bond. I wanted to tell them there were far needier causes in which they might involve themselves, but then again, if that is what they feel is important who am I to double guess them? I also noticed a thread where Stan was being discussed in a number of posts. I started to send him an email to ask him if his ears were burning - - - - - but thought it best I not.

Oh - KY guess - - I thought that was Kathy too! !

Sorry Stan! Here I am! :-)

I used to post over there a bit, but I haven't been over in quite some time. I don't know...I guess it's hard to see really nice folks get attacked regularly for personal life choices/orientation...be they sexual, spiritual, political, whatever. Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoy expanding my mind by hearing diverse viewpoints, but just cut-throat, hurtful, personal attacks are....not very condusive to growth, imho. If you only want to listen to yourself, why scream, you are right there. ;-)

Some pretty huge egos......but that's ok, to each his own.

Dang, you caught me!! LOL I go as KY Guest since I still feel like an outsider in KY therefore I must be a 'guest' :) Somedays things go so peaceful over there then it all starts over again. I was called a godless, baby killing, liberal tree hugger a while back for my views regarding logging on federal land!! Liberal & a tree hugger- Yes & proud of it!! Godless & a baby killer-No on both counts. Oh well, if it makes them feel superior to call me names I wouldn't want to burst their bubble and spoil their day. At first I took each nasty remark as a personal insult but now I either ignore them or give it right back. When it gets too strange I just take a vacation from their forums. Sherri, I was really surprised too that the Halloween thread didn't turn into a complete fiasco. Some seemed genuinely interested in what others believed. Found a few closet pagans posting too.:) All in all this site seems so much more like a family, not the dysfunctional type but people who really care what happens to the others here. Stan, thanks for keeping this place/forum open. It's a great place for us to hang out.

I had no idea that was you. I'm glad that you and a few others speak up at times when the discussions get a bit too narrow.

Ya know, I got to thinking more about this after I moseyed over for a look at the "Halloween thread"..., curiostity killed the cat, I know! ;-)

Although I first stressed the fact that a few seem to attack, or be very inflexable, critical, there really are some great folks over there. I find myself looking for their posts, and smiling. It's not so much I'm personally "offended", granted it does set my teeth on edge when I see just plain mean-spiritedness....it didn't bother me at all when I was called a "liberal bitch." (I wasn't being a bitch, btw, just stating a POV in a calm respectful way.)

Truth is....when I posted to anything even mildly controversial...I'd cringe, waiting for my words to be ripped and shredded. Feeling that rather than a thoughtful exchange, it was more like a "defend your words/self". I got to thinking, what's the point of that? There is a big difference between conversation...and altercation.

I'm so confused as to what is going on...I have always loved the Lusenet forum for Countryside as it was so full of info and so easy to find the info.....I read that it was closed.now I am here and find a few posts...is this the same board or what...I went to the other place and it seems nice enough but I really really liked the old one...I was just absent with other priorities so now I have no idea where to post.

-- RDGee (n5rjm@arrl.nett), September 26, 2002.

As far as I'm concerned, this board and a few others here on Lusenet are the ONLY boards :-)!! I only post here on Lusenet. Too much "hoopla" on Chuck's forum! This place is small and very neighborly!!
