Legionaries of Christ

I applaud the Legionaries of Christ, the most intrinsically sound religious order of the new millenium. They are my absolute faves.

You'd like to think that, wouldn't you?

Yes, I like thinking that too! ):-)

You're alright, JF. :)

Prove that little statement!!!!! ;^)

Maybe tim would like to applaude them but I would rather deplore them! The Legionaries of Christ are a danger to the your health! Beware all that glitters is not Gold! They should be called the Machivellians of the Anti Christ! Nothing to do with Christ, mostly to do with getting vocations, and capturing memebers for the Cult of Marcel Maciel! They are a cult and are more concerned with making money than saving souls! Their founder jets around the world 1st class on Concorde while he is supposed to have a vow of poverty!

"Let James, who is without sin, cast the first stone."

Dear '@', we are all sinners but that does not mean that we can talk about our experiences, just because I'm a sinner doesn't mean I'm bound to silence. If that was the case then nobody could critize the Legion. Of course the vast public out there probably don't know that the legion has two private vows, one of which is not to critize your superiors, and to report anybody doing so to their superior, alla Hitler Youth!

-- James Xlc (James_xwing@hotmail.com), November 12, 2002.

James,

Why would you want to criticize anyway? Why not be a real man and bring it up directly to your superior, or if you can't muster up the courage for that, then to his superior? That way, you would resolve the problem, instead of compounding it by sharing it with others who are not in a position to resolve the problem.

When you view the private vows in their historical context, they don't seem so Hitler-esque to me. And if the Holy Father is with the Legion, and you still say they're a cult, it says much more about you than it does about them.

Phil,

Not having been a legionary you don't understand. You can't question your superiors and you certainly can't bring this type of thing up with them.

I regard the legion a cult. Being a cult is is extremely important for them to keep tight control over their subjects. Their interns are subjected to continual brainwashing. From the cults perspective once a member takes a public stance against it by critizing it in any way they must immediately remove that individual from the legion. And that is exactly what happens. Even Priests are not immune to this, many Priests have been forced to leave the legion because they dissagreed in public with their superiors or the founder.

Given the very secretrative nature of the legion it is important to inform the whole church of their duplicity not just the superior in question. So Phil I do believe the public Catholic Forum is an appropriate place to raise these issues.

God Bless!

Phil,

THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

THEN THEY CAME for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Phil,

Do you seriously think that the Pope really has the time to know the legion and Maciel in depth? Just because they are papal groupies doesn't mean they have complete Church approval for all they do. The legion seduces new members with pictures of the Pope with them, and hey who knows you might get the chance to be an altar server for the Pope....but just like one can't be guilty because they associate with sinners, ...i.e. Jesus ate with sinners, neither can one be innocent by association. As for me well I'm just an individual who is trying to do the right thing, never underestimate the power of the individual. If we as individuals don't speak up the world will never change and the wrongs of others are perpetuate and their bad behaviour reinforced due to our indifference to the truth.

God Bless!

Phil,

I didn't realize that you signed with xLC. Apologies for my dislexia.

BTW I still stand by what I've said. You having been an LC should know that you can't critize or even question Maciel, the movement and above all the legion.

Dear James,

Thanks for the response. I think it depends on what you mean by "question the Legion", etc. My experience has always been one of openness on the part of the superiors to reconsider approaches to different problems - why do we do this rather than that. Maybe a classroom may not have been the best place to ask a question like yours. Certainly if I asked my eighth grade teacher why we have to study Algebra, for instance, I could expect a different answer if I did it in front of a class from if I did so in a private conference.

And although I was in the Legion for 8 years, I don't think that changes anything. Anyone with good common sense and a rightly formed conscience should be able to address the point.

Hi. I would just like to say that the criticisms against the LC are ridiculous. I have been an ACTIVE member of RC for years, and they are a great group. In fact, I am pursuing a vocation with the LC. As well, I keep in close contact with several of their seminarians.
