VACUUM FOOD SAVER

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

I have been thinking about getting one of these. Does any one have one? Wall Mart has two different types---my question is...If they stop selling that brand can you still buy the bags? Does one bag fit all systems.   My sister owns and runs a deer processing business and has a commercial type vacuum system, I would like to have one on a smaller scale.   Any help out there?

I've often thought about buying one of those vacuum sealers. Knowing the way Walmart works...if you buy the sealer, I would buy several packages of spare bags. Just in case Walmart stops stocking them :-)!! I don't know if "one bag fits all". Maybe someone else does?! Let us know how it works...I might get one, too!

I bought one a couple of years ago and I use it all the time. Sears has one and I like their bags the best. They can be used a lot of times if you are careful opening them. I also store a lot of stuff in wide mouth canning jars and it really does keep a long time. I'm using baking powder I sealed a yr ago and its still good. Again if you are careful opening the lids they can be used over and over. Blessings Peggy

I have the Foodsaver by Tilia. I got mine through mail order but Walmart's now sells them too. If Walmart's quits selling the bags you could still order them through the order form that comes with the unit. By the way, I love it; it keeps meats & vegetables from freezer burning for a very long time. Today I'm packaging for the freezer a big batch of Chili.

My family has one and it's great. It saves money and food. I am doing a science project, and was wondering if anyone had any useful information, or websites on the food vacuum.

P.S. We have the Food Saver and it comes with atleast 100 bags. They're reusable, so you couldn't possibly run out.
