Barbary Coast in 1918

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I am interested in finding out what was happening on Pacific Street near Columbus after the area was virtually shut down by 1917 and during the flu epidemic of 1918. Did clubs continue in modified form? (I have seen the Herbert Asbury exerpts and Tom Stoddard's book). I am particularly interested in jazz musicians, the U.S. Cafe owned by the Peterson Brothers, and the Cascade run by Amelia Darker, apparently the only woman listed on Jesse Cook's 1906-1910 list.

Many thanks, Katia Prongos
