any techno clubs in VA Beach area?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : North Carolina Raves : One Thread

I am inquiring about clubs that play house, jungle, breaks in VA Beach. I have made the trip up to D.C. but that is just to far to drive. I am a transplant from seattle where house clubs and late afterhours clubs are everywhere. I am tired of rap and rock i need some good breaks. If anyone can help please let me know.

Hello

There are not really any good techno clubs in Va Beach. The best you will get is the Abyss. It mixes r&b and rap and a little techno untill about 2:00AM Then it turns into more jungle house music. Richmond has a club called secrets in the city and it is two floors and 1st floor is all techno it is alot of fun

Sweetie- There is Hartz off independence on Tues/Thurs, Vibe at the underground (17th and Pacific) on Weds night. Friday night Vinyl- at Club Ambush off of Lynnhaven and A lounge night at Bogarts on Saturdays.... we have everything you could desire... I'm a breaks head too.

If you are in Richmond on Saturday night's. Tune in to 90.1fm at 11pm. I announce all the raves and late outlaw parties. If you are not going to make it until the following week, you can also tune in via internet at 11pm saturday at www.wdce.org The show is called "Club Esq". peace

Yo, the abyss is no more. It's now closed down. So where can one go for some REALLY good techno? I'm tired of all the rap bullshit on the radio.

Virginia Beach is in great need of a serious dance club, especially now that Abyss is gone. If anyone has experience on starting a new techno oriented club in the area but just need the funds, let me know. It would be a great business opportunity with the right people with the right leads.

well I know some clubs that are good. Klub Ambush is the number one front runner for techno - Fridays are called 'Vinyl' and you get stuff from house to happy hardcore. There is a club formally known as Blakelies (sp?) that just shut down and is reopening as a techno club. Also I'm throwing an one off on my campus in about a month, I'll let you know how that goes.

Well, as of 1/2004, there a few palces to go for Electronic music. First off to start the week is Vinyl. It's held at the 22nd Street HideAway on Colonial and 22nd St. in Norfolk near Ghent. Then Tuesdays nights at the same place are called Meltdown. Thursday nights are chill nights at Fairgrounds (not sure if that is full name) but it's of Colley Avenue in Ghent. Friday nights, there are 2 events. One in Norfolk (Kemistry, La Galleria) and in Virginia Beach (Reverb, Klub Ambush). Saturday nights, the Cantinia Margarita, a mexican restaraunt in downtown Norfolk, holds a night called Adrenalin.

So there is a lot to go and check out. Granted it's not like the big cities where there are giant warehouse parties and stuff. We had something close to that back in the day but due to several crackdowns and shutdowns, this scene has suffered a lot. BUT, it is coming back. We just need to keep up the support and I'm sure bigger things will come along. I own a production company, Empyreal, and I've been talking to other production companies about doing something big. Keep your fingers crossed. Later. Mooqfsh www.empyreal.8k.com

Also, btw, I was the 2:00 dj at the Abyss for 4 years. I now spin at The Ambush as I said before, but on offnights (Not Thurs/sat) I play Happy Hardcore/DnB strickly. But if you used to go the The Abyss frequently, you'll probably remember me. I was spinning breaks and hardhouse after 2am every Wed, Fri, and Sat

Hey guys and girls my friend and I are really tired of all that sleazy rap and hip-hop around here in Hampton roads area.Whereever you turn your head you listen to it-radio,gym, TV not to mention clubs.I'm from BULGARIA and my friend from YUGOSLAVIA and we are big TECHNO/TRANCE maniacs. That kind of music is very popular in Europe but apparently not here in the area. We've tried Time at Granby st but the Dj mixes so much rap and just a little trance.Nowhere else we've found places where the dominating music is trance and techno. We made it all the way to Richmond couple of time to Secrets but even there it has become quite a ghetto place. If anyone knows any good techno/trance spots in teh area I'd love to hear from you guys and if we can click with the right people we can even think of organizing some event sometime. It's very shameful and sad that such an awesome music is not experiencing any support around here and we all can even slowly change that. For contacts my email is dimiteo@yahoo.com and I can be reached at 757/373 5729 Thanks and keep the tech fun going ;) take care MITKO

Wassup, I'm close to the Richmond area. And truthfully, I'd say Virginia is the worst place to look for electronic music. I drive 3 hours up to DC to go to Nation on Friday nights every now and then. Great place I reccommend it. http://www.primacycompanies.com/nation/index.cfm As for anything else, I used to have parties at my house but not many people around here are into electronica. I'm an experimental musician, if anyone else is around the Richmond area and wants to jam email me, Powhatan is where I live, just a lil west, I'm close to Chesterfield too! Heh, Boy this place suxx, I need to move to another country.

Soon, very soon... My cohorts and I are standing up a server with quite an extensive selection of Breaks/DnB/Nu Skool. I grew up in the Central Florida corridor and would like the music to continue to grow in my new "home". If you followed the scene for any significant amount of time over the last 8 years, you'll recognize the dj's. Mostly home grown in CFL, but there are others who toured through and countless live shows. (Rick West, Brad Smith, Baby and Icey, Ariees, Gemeni etc.) It will be a simple FTP format and everyone is welcome to join. Look for more info within the next week. We'll have a streaming MP3 server as well. And this is all for the sake of the scene, so please, if you enjoy, publicize! Drop me a line if there's anyone who would like to post. Once again, we'll be up in 2 weeks. Any questions please feel free to email.

Good night! What does it take to get a gig in this town? I've thrown out CD's of continuous vinyl mixes to almost every club in Norfolk with responses like: "We only spin Hip-Hop." or "We already have a DJ (yeah, well your DJ is spinning the same crap as every other club in the area). If someone is looking for a house DJ on the cheap (cause, man... I just want to spin), look no further. (record depth: Deep Dish, Satoshi Tomii, Benny Benassi, Chemical Brothers, Felix Da Housecat, Eric Prydz, etc.)
