VOICE OF ‘OSAMA' SPEWS MORE HATE

By KATE SHEEHY

October 7, 2002 -- An Arab TV station yesterday aired what it said was a taped recording of Osama bin Laden that ominously threatened more deadly terror attacks by "the youths of God" against the United States.

"By God, the youths of God are preparing for you [America] things that would fill your hearts with terror and target your economic lifeline until you stop your oppression and aggression," said the voice, which the Al-Jazeera station in Qatar attributed to bin Laden.

Blasting the Bush administration as a "Zionist mob," the recording - played against a backdrop of a photo of bin Laden - added that any attack against Arabs would be repaid "twofold."

The American people must "understand the message of the New York and Washington attacks, which came in response to some of your previous crimes," the voice said.

"Those who have initiated [the attacks] are the ones who brought injustice.

"But those who follow the activities of the band of criminals in the White House, the Jewish agents, who are preparing for an attack on the Muslim world . . . feel that you have not understood anything from the message of the two attacks."

Al-Jazeera, which has aired exclusive footage of bin Laden in the past, said it did not know when the recording was taped.

But TV editor Ibrahim Helal said, "We had no doubt this was bin Laden.

"It was not only the tone of the voice, but also the way he spoke and the logic of the message."

In addition, the recording was brief, Helal said, showing "that the man was in tough circumstances and does not have a chance to talk."

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on CNN yesterday that bin Laden is "probably dead."

But the fate of bin Laden's right-hand man, one-eyed Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, is more certain - he's definitely alive, Karzai said.

"We've come close to arresting him several times, but he's been able to escape," and fades into the crowd "because nobody knows him by face." With Post Wire Services

I would like to hear if that recording has been tested for authenticity by our own government.
