A good new law

Hi,

I think that one of the catagories should be the abortion one.

I have a bit of good news. This is rather periferal to abortion though.

California had a law that women who abandon their babies to die by exposure are guilty of murder. Enforcement of this law did not seem to really bring the desired deterance. While this law is still in effect, a new law has been made and well publicised. This new law says (IIRC) in effect: if you have your kid, bring the kid to a hospital, then walk off, you will not be charged with anything, and the kid goes automatically up for adoption. So this is the carrot where the old law was the stick. It has needed to be publicised until all get the message, so I have been hit with several such stories in the last few months. According to the stories, the new law does work, and has had a good effect. Kids are no longer found abandoned, or if so, to a much lower rate (I want to be exact, and can not recall). of course the publicity folk do have an agenda, but it looks likely that things are going like they say.

This law does not seem to me to be obvious. Maybe you all could suggest that such a law be enacted near you? If the connection with the abort decision is not obvious, I may come back to expand on that.

Yes, I was listening to a program on EWTN about the group who is working to change this type of law throughout the US - a devout, Catholic, pro-life group I might add. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the organization. If someone knows, maybe the can give a link to a web site for us to contribute to the cause.

God bless!
