Should be "in" Falls Church. Woman was in lower level parking deck. Police looking for white GMC truck or van. No proof yet that it's sniper.

The only other significant news: VA Governor is reported as saying the woman was with her husband when she was shot. If this is true, then this is an unutterably evil sonofabitch, even worse than we thought. Sounds like he's starting to ratchet up. What next? A mother with her children? A child with its mother? I see film of monumental traffic jams all over the earea and I just know this bastard is at home watching it on TV. Or maybe he has a little TV in his vehicle in one of those jams. Nah, he's home.

people at work mentioned that there were two involved, the shooter and the driver. theory is that the driver is a woman. Not sure if that is something from the news or not.

Home Depot is like my favorite store. I can imagine the withdrawal some of the customers will be going thru.

While in New Bern NC I had to drive by the Lowe's there at least once a day. I was 'persuaded' not to go in although I had a long list of things my sister and hubby needed. Of course some days I couldn't go by there, so I made that up by going by it twice on the other days.

That husband is going to need some major help in the coming days, I think. Poor guy.

Or, he's home celebrating being free from the ball and chain and maybe had a big insurance policy on her.

How long before the military gets involved with the hunt? TPTB aren't going to let this killing spree go on much longer.

The mil got involved yesterday afternoon. They're going to be using the latest in the drones, no details of aircraft being given out for obvious reasons. Mil has to be real careful about posse comitatus so there was some delay before they offered or agreed--had to get a legal opinion, I guess, and you know how long lawyers take to do things.

Rumsfeld OKs military assist in sniper hunt

From Barbara Starr

CNN Washington Bureau Tuesday, October 15, 2002 Posted: 6:50 PM EDT (2250 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Tuesday approved the use of military reconnaissance and surveillance equipment in the hunt for the Washington area sniper.

He acted at the request of federal law enforcement. The Pentagon did not disclose what type of equipment might be used because of concern of jeopardizing the investigation.

The plan would mandate that civilian law enforcement officials work closely with the military. Military sources said troops would be used solely to operate equipment and point out potential targets to law enforcement.

That procedure would avoid any potential conflict with the Posse Comitatus Act, the 1878 law that prohibits the military from direct involvement in civilian law enforcement.

This would not be the first time the military has assisted law enforcement, however. For several years, troops have worked alongside civilian authorities in drug interdiction, the troops looking for suspects but not participating in arrests.

Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, signed the order that permits the equipment to be used.

The sniper has killed nine people and wounded two in Washington, Maryland and Virginia since October 2. The most recent shooting happened Monday night outside a Home Depot in Falls Church, Virginia.

Watched a good movie on tv over the weekend - Enemy of the State, starring Gene Hackman and Will Smith. It would have you believe that the NSA has satellites up there that can zero in on anyone at any time and that it is all archived. Guess they made that part up? LOL
