A friend of mine wanted to know who was the Pope after Peter.

Do you have a list of Popes from Peter till today, or is there a website listing them all?

Thanks

Here ya go, Tim!

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm Also lists their bios. You might note that the Encyclopedia Britannica also has a list.

Eusebius, the church historian goes into great detail on apostolic succession, etc., and of course lists the successors of Peter. You can find him, and the writings of numerous church fathers at www.ccel.org., which is GREAT SITE for Protestants and Catholics! You can read the writings of the disciples of the "disciples." It's AWESOME!

Also, in a study of the development of doctrine, check out Cardinal John Henry Newman's "Essay on the Development of Doctrine," which will show how the Catholic Church HAS NOT reversed its teachings, and how doctrine has grown organically (in some cases from seedlings), and in supernatural progression, throughout the ages! His study actually lead him to conclude that the Catholic Church really is who she says she is. He left the Anglican church after MUCH spiritual turmoil! CAUSING NO SMALL RIFT! The Catholic Church is built upon precedent, much like our current secular legal system -- stone upon stone, precept on precept, precedent upon precedent! Actually, they say that our legal system in the U.S. is built (in structure) upon the principles found in the Judeo-Christian tradition!

Sorry. Didn't mean to give you so much more than you asked for, Tim. At some point, you're going to have to ask yourself -- Is the Catholic Church divine, or diabolical? It certainly is a kingdom, complete with a King, a Queen, with its pews filled with rich and poor, all colors, all nations, all colors! But what is she? She has a hierarchy, like a kingdom, some good, some bad. You can trace her heritage all the way back to Christ Himself! It's a question I asked myself and the LORD, on my face, in anguish, over and over again! I hope you will do the same! The weight of the evidence, as revealed in history, is overwhelmingly in favor of the startling, astonishing fact!

As Scott Hahn said, "at first I was fascinated, then enchanted, then HORRIFIED!" He was arch-Catholic enemy, #1, so you can imagine that his horror shook him to the core of his being!

So, what say ye, Tim?

God Bless you, my friend,

Gail
