And there's this. Effing hypocrites.

Wellstone Farewell Becomes Political

The event that began as a poignant farewell to the late Senator Paul Wellstone Tuesday evening culminated in a furious series of partisan speeches.

Wellstone's family and friends exhorted supporters to help his ballot replacement to victory next week.

The first eulogies were tender remembrances for the seven people killed along with Wellstone in a northern Minnesota plane crash Friday as were the initial remarks for Wellstone.

The late senator had been locked in a difficult re-election battle with Republican Norm Coleman.

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin called Wellstone "the soul of the Senate."

But by the end of his remarks, Harkin had shed his jacket and was imploring the crowd of about 15,000 to work on Wellstone's behalf.

Wellstone's friend and former student Rick Kahn whipped up the crowd before Harkin took the stage by adopting the late senator's fiery speaking style.

He chopped the air with his hands, as Wellstone often did, and exhorted the crowd to keep Wellstone's dream alive.

Rest is here.

And this:

Mondale Cheered Loudly At Wellstone Memorial Clinton, Gore Among Mourners

POSTED: 9:21 a.m. EST October 29, 2002

Former Vice President Walter Mondale was cheered loudly as he entered Tuesday evening's memorial service for the late Sen. Paul Wellstone.

Mondale (pictured) is expected to replace Wellstone on the ballot in Minnesota.

About 15,000 people crammed into an arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota for the service. Thousands more watched video feeds both inside a nearby facility and outside.

During the memorial, Minnesotans were urged to win next Tuesday's election for Wellstone.

Wellstone campaign treasurer Rick Kahn implored those gathered to keep Wellstone's legacy alive.

Kahn even called on Republican senators who attended the memorial service to stand up and urge others to keep Wellstone's dreams going forward.

Wellstone's green campaign bus, which was parked outside the arena, has been turned into a shrine thick with flowers.

Just about everybody attending the service wore either a Wellstone sticker or a button with his picture on it.

Yessirreeee, that was SOME memorial service! Rock music, PIAPS dancing in her seat, booing for members of the senate who were not of the 'right' party, political speeches, grandstanding and laughter, laughter, laughter!!!

I am only hoping that what we just witnessed was the minions of the dark, exposed and overplaying their hand.

Reply 2 - Posted by: LisaA, 10/29/2002 11:01:21 PM

This isn't a memorial, it's a Democratic Convention. Betcha Cheney's glad he didn;t have to go to this!!

Reply 3 - Posted by: Gantry, 10/29/2002 11:02:43 PM

Gee after this maybe they could resurect him weekly and have more and more ralies dancing on his grave. These people are sicker than I thought.

Reply 4 - Posted by: youngtexan, 10/29/2002 11:03:06 PM

Was this a memorial service where people grieve or was it a pep rally for DNC. I'm confused.

Reply 5 - Posted by: jnorv, 10/29/2002 11:04:33 PM

I am sure glad that the Dim’s did not politicize this event!

Reply 6 - Posted by: 3M_TA3, 10/29/2002 11:04:48 PM

So, what bus were we suppose to join and ride?

Reply 7 - Posted by: Ruskin, 10/29/2002 11:06:50 PM

"Great Party, Man! Who's the stiff?" - Bill Clitton.

Reply 8 - Posted by: Joan Toast, 10/29/2002 11:07:15 PM

Allegra, I couldn't agree more. I just watched part of it. What a truly disgusting display! The democRATS will use anything, and I mean anything, to gain political advantage. No wonder they didn't want Cheney there at their political rally, aka a "memorial service." :-P

Reply 9 - Posted by: tnc, 10/29/2002 11:08:33 PM

You'd think the Dems would suffer from this but I'm sure they won't. Most Americans have been so dumbed-down, and programmed to think anything on TV is good for them that they will embrace the Dems because of this. how sickening.

Can you imagine if Republicans did anything like this? I'm sure the memorial for Sen Paul Coverdell was not a raucous event!

Coleman's campaign ought to run ads with pictures of the laughing Mondull at the rally. Err, I mean memorial. The elitists will say he is being mean and negative but I don't think he has anything to lose.

Reply 10 - Posted by: allegra, 10/29/2002 11:08:52 PM

Had Cheney been there, they would have had HAD to behave a bit...you can't have the folks booing a VEEP at a memorial service. No, they wanted this MTV extravaganza...it was repulsive.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Swede, 10/29/2002 11:09:33 PM

The few moments I caught of this looked like a pep rally for a demoRAT convention and a whole lot of politicing goin on deh!

Reply 12 - Posted by: aquilegia, 10/29/2002 11:11:06 PM

To the Republicans it will be a memorial because we believe in the value of human life and in respect for the individual.

To the Democrats it will be a feeding frenzy because they never miss an opportunity to provide raw-meat to satiate the ravenous appetites of those who see politics as a blood sport.

Reply 13 - Posted by: Joan Toast, 10/29/2002 11:12:55 PM

And these rats have the gall to accuse the Republicans of playing politics because they want to set up a debate! I'm just so angry I can't even type straight.

Reply 14 - Posted by: golla, 10/29/2002 11:13:17 PM

I could only watch for a moment before becoming physically ill.

Absolutely ghoulish!

Reply 15 - Posted by: Caprine, 10/29/2002 11:14:19 PM

Gagged on a few minutes of this...memorial? Just yesterday, Harry Reid was whining to Judy Woodruff about the solemnity of 'honoring' Wellstone. He was foaming at the mouth, spitting out lies about Republicans. It will be interesting to watch the alpha network a.m. shows tomorrow and watch the talking heads defend this...gads! I'm in such shock over the perversity of it all, that I'm at a loss for words!

Reply 16 - Posted by: TmjUtah, 10/29/2002 11:14:22 PM

Cheney wasn't wanted because the extra security would have meant that the attending public would have had to leave their dope and pipes at home.

I, too, am relieved to see that the Left didn't turn what should be a dignified observance of a good man gone into a tawdy, tasteless, political event.

/sarcasmOFF.

Reply 17 - Posted by: allegra, 10/29/2002 11:14:42 PM

It was skin-crawling to watch, wasn't it? A masterbatory, lascivious display of their LUST for power. I feel like taking a bath after seeing that.

Reply 18 - Posted by: pam, 10/29/2002 11:18:35 PM

Now that an apparently sufficient time has passed, does anyone know if the Wellstone estate will pay those horrid death taxes the dearly departed voted at every opportunity to keep and expand? Or was his wealth in a trust - avoiding all death taxes?

Reply 19 - Posted by: 3M_TA3, 10/29/2002 11:20:45 PM

There were a few moments of eulogy, but not many. Mostly, it was a rally with them going over the Democrat talking points one by one.

Reply 20 - Posted by: Joan Toast, 10/29/2002 11:22:22 PM

I have to add that I saw a bit of one of Wellstone's sons giving his speech. I swear that he is planning to run for some political office and soon. What kind of son turns a memorial service for his father, his mother, and his little sister into a carnival of democRAT frenzy? I doubt all this "good guy" stuff about Wellstone now. He certainly raised his son to be an opportunist of the very worst kind.

Reply 21 - Posted by: JLoophole, 10/29/2002 11:22:34 PM

A tacky, tawdry, unseemly, gauche, shameful, excessive, repugnant, offensive, nauseating, disgusting, loathesome, sickening, acrid, unsavory display of sorrow for the loss of eight lives.

Thank you, Roget.

I noticed "Fritz" Wally Moondale dyed his hair and got new glasses. I'll bet his Depends have Hootie and the Blowfish on them.

DemocRATS are a disgrace.

Reply 23 - Posted by: RickeyD, 10/29/2002 11:23:09 PM

Was that the real Walter Mondull,or was it a body double? This one seemed to still be breathing.

Reply 24 - Posted by: ccyr, 10/29/2002 11:23:42 PM

Where's that Diamonddumba$$ or whatever who was criticizing people on this site for wondering about the political implications of Wellstone's death. He owes me an apology for that sick, reprehensible perversion of a memorial service that I just watched. Pathetic. Sad. And dang, dang hypocritical. But what's new about that for Democratic Socialists?

Reply 25 - Posted by: voxpopuli, 10/29/2002 11:25:46 PM

THE TRASH OF HUMANITY... wellfarestone would be PROUD of these people..

Reply 26 - Posted by: rosiek, 10/29/2002 11:27:58 PM

This has a feeling of the demonic... The great dem martyr....gave his life for the cause...How can his family be a part of this....

Reply 27 - Posted by: WesternCivilization, 10/29/2002 11:28:54 PM

I heard the term "We know what we must do..." about 5 times in this sick circus. This is Democrat code for COMMIT MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD!! It's OK to break laws and vote multiple times, because Republicans are bad people and just don't care for children and elderly people. I don't know what is the worst scenario: These devious Democrat power-lusting demagogues keep gettig elected with voter fraud OR they actually get elected by a plurality of brain-dead, feel-good male and/or female soccer-moms out there. If it makes any of you feel better, I too am physically ill and am going to puke now. God help America.

Reply 28 - Posted by: tom morgan, 10/29/2002 11:29:45 PM

The DNC knows this is going to be their "Last Hooraw" and Mondale is going to be their Willie Brant.

Reply 29 - Posted by: Salem, 10/29/2002 11:30:28 PM

I also saw the son's speech. I was confused, at first. I thought it was a flashback to a time before the death of three members of his family. When I realized that he was actually speaking at the memorial service, it made me sick to my stomach.

What kind of people cannot bear to pause for even a moment to honor one of their own? At least in Missouri the whole state paused, both parties, and paid honor to Mel Carnahan for his service to the state and to the country. I am ashamed for Minnesota.

Reply 30 - Posted by: ElizaRose, 10/29/2002 11:32:21 PM

#24 Apology? ... Democrats don't know how to apologize; it is never their fault you know.

Reply 31 - Posted by: golla, 10/29/2002 11:32:35 PM

If this "memorial" succeeds............. If I were a dumocrap incumbent at future elections, I'd worry that I'd be the next sacrificial lamb.

I'm beginning to think that allegra might have been right all along in her suspiscion that Wellstone (and Carnahan???) were "offed".

From Drudge: 'Win for Paul! For Paul! For Paul'...Cheering, handshaking, speechifying, yelling, clapping, stomping, laughing and shouting -- there's never been a memorial service like it... Instead of eulogies, stemwinders. Instead of pray for his soul, get out the vote. Instead of weeping, cheering. Welcome to bigtime politics 2002, where a memorial service for a tragically killed senator becomes a raucous DNC rally. All that was missing was the balloon drop...

Maybe next they'll stuff him and roll him out at rallies all across the state.

That behavior is at best in poor taste . . . couldn't they wait until after the service? They've made his death into a campaign opportunity. If Minnesotans have an ounce of decorum in their veins they ought to find this reprehensible.

Reply 34 - Posted by: tropicanagold, 10/29/2002 11:36:09 PM

This whole thing makes me sick. I wish the picture of Clinton and Mondale laughing would be shown to the actual voters.

Pirates of old lusting after the treasure they are taking from the just departed must have cheered with the same bloodlust, mad drunken butchers who dress in the most refined clothes as they cheer each other on with thoughts of their next victims with cries of WE KNOW WHAT WE MUST DO.

The voters need to send these butchers to the political gallows and let them swing in public for their piratry of a mans death.

"Wellstone's body lies a-molderen in the grave. Wellstones body lies a-molderen in the grave. Wellstones body lies a-molderen in the grave. But the left keeps marching on... Come on everybody, lets SING!" --Sen Tom Harken's eulogy to ex-Sen.Wellstone

Reply 40 - Posted by: Switchblade, 10/29/2002 11:58:00 PM

The only thing they didn't do was to dig up the dead and pass the coffins through the crowd like the paleostines do with their dead martyrs. Disgusting behavior. I hope that many, many, 'rat voters hear of this and refuse to vote.

Reply 41 - Posted by: rocket-j-squirrel, 10/30/2002 12:00:51 AM

I just knew fellow L-dotters were tuning into this circus. We watched it until we could no longer stomach the hypocracy. I was surprised they didn't suspend him from the rafters by wires and have a laser light show dancing across his corpse. It was the most sickening spectacle I have ever seen trying to masquerade itself as a *memorial service*. I noticed a look of disgust from Gov. Ventura when he entered the building.

Just when you think Demoncrats can't get any more crass, vile, disgusting, obnoxious, morbid, conniving, opportunistic, self-centered, and hideously evil, they go and out do themselves yet again. Even Paul Wellstone didn't deserve this type of *rememberance*.
