Marine Temperance Society

I'm trying to find some information about the San Francisco "Marine Temperance Society." I understand it was formed in 1866 and had about 3500 members. Any info would be appreciated!

The Marine Temperance Society was founded by Russell Hogg (1844-1882) and was based in Elmere House on Montgomery Street until the late fifties. It moved to San Bruno Road, before finally closing in the mid eighties due to lack of money.

It's a real shame to see SF societies disappearing, if you are interested in starting it up again then get in touch ! ! ! !
