Sounds like Alice must not be with him, but this is the best opportunity so far to find out where she might be.

Second Kentucky Escapee Nabbed in Indiana http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,70983,00.html

ASHLAND, Ky. — The search for the second fugitive who escaped from a Kentucky jail two weeks ago has ended in Indiana, where police have arrested Chadrick Fulks while he was allegedly attempting a bank robbery.

Fulks, 25, and L. Branden Basham, 21, are suspected of abducting two people since escaping from jail on Nov. 4.

One of the abduction victims, Alice Louise Donovan of Galivants Ferry, S.C., is still missing.

Basham was taken into custody Sunday night after police said he tried to hijack a car carrying a woman and her 15-year-old daughter in the parking lot of an Ashland mall.

An officer spotted a man less than a block away and chased him, and "the suspect fired two shots at the officer, and the officer fired back," Kentucky police Capt. Robert Ratliff said. "Neither was struck."

Basham initially told police his name was Josh Leon Ritman, Ratliff said Tuesday. On Monday night, fingerprints confirmed he was Basham.

"What little information he gave us just didn't add up on his personal history," Ratliff said.

Fulks remained at large until his capture Wednesday.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said an armed suspect believed to be Fulks got away from troopers Monday night in Marion County after a chase on U.S. 23 in north-Central Ohio.

Authorities said troopers saw a late model BMW with a West Virginia plate at a Marion, Ohio, rest stop around 10:30 p.m. Monday. They said a check of the license plate showed the car was stolen and was possibly linked to two recent abductions.

A trooper broke off the pursuit because he feared another officer had been injured while trying to stop the car, patrol spokesman Lt. Gary Lewis said. The other trooper was uninjured. Other reports say the troopers tried to stop the car with road spikes but it kept going and officers lost sight of it.

"Our trooper did not see anyone else in the car but we don't know if there were possible victims or abductions inside the trunk," Lewis said.

Police believe Basham and Fulks are linked to the abduction Thursday in Conway, S.C., of Donovan, who was taken from a Wal-Mart parking lot.

The two are also are suspected of abducting James Hawkins, 42, of Hanson, Ky., who was taken 40 miles north into Indiana and left tied to a tree, authorities said. Hawkins struggled for hours Nov. 6 before freeing himself.

Basham is being held without bail at the Boyd County Detention Center on charges of attempted robbery, criminal attempt to commit murder on an officer and fleeing or eluding a police officer.

Basham and Fulks escaped Nov. 4 from the Hopkins County jail in western Kentucky. Basham was serving a five-year sentence for writing a bad check and Fulks was awaiting trial on robbery charges, authorities said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It's worrying that he tried to rob a bank when he might possibly have used Alice's checking account--he was perviously arrested for trying to cash a stolen check or something, I believe.

Hope someone will update the flyer and have Indiana folks get that thing around. Fox reporter in SC confirming capture, rehash of backgroundof both escapees.

Just talked to Judy, she hadn't heard, was happy but worried, obviously.

Fulks captured in Elkhart, Indiana. Alice has GOT to be in the trunk of the car around there somewhere. Wherever she is, I bet she's not far from that car.

Judy doesn't have a TV so I was letting her listen to Fox's report. Didn't see it on CNN, MSNBC carried only a small 20-second piece, Fox has been running it every few minutes, it seems.

BTW, Judy confirmed that there was a woman in the car Monday night when troopers chased it. She added that someone had e-mailed her that "they" were searching all over SC, helicopters everywhere. I don't know that it makes any sense if a cop confirmed a woman like Alice was in the BMW Monday night in Ohio and the guy was caught in Indiana today. I thought I had read somewhere that the girlfriend, of Fulks, I believe, is either in custody or under surveillance; she had a part in the escapees going to SC--it was her van they used after the truck was abandoned--so it's doubtful the woman seen in the car was her.

some good news anyway!

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2002

Fox says they were indeed doing a helicopter search at the SC/NC line, figuring Alice might be tied up around there as the guy from Indiana was tied up.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2002

Git, wouldn't that mean that Basham was lying about Alice still being with them Sunday evening? I had hoped that part was true.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2002

Possibly. But we don't know that the SC folks have any evidence that Alice is in that area; maybe they're just covering bases. And there WAS that report from a police officer involved in the Monday night chase who said there was a woman fitting Alice's description in the car. Fingers crossed.

We're just going to have to be patient and let the system grind on, unfortunately. In third world countries, they might break a few fingers and other parts until the perp sings, but I doubt the good folks of IN would resort to that.

Pity. This is a crime that doesn't justify "prisoner rights," in my opinion.

A year ago during the debates following 9/11, I recall hearing that even Alan Dershowitz saying there was a time for torture during interrogation, say if lives were immediately at stake.

Break a few fingers and then start slicing . . .

This guy is punk. Bet the first finger would break him.

Fox reported that the younger one, caught Sunday night, was talking. I hopw that doesn't mean he told them they left her somewhere on the SC/NC border.

"...Fulks was awaiting trial on robbery charges..."

Can't help thinking that Fulks attorney will be really pissed with him...

From a TB post:

Cnn live just spoke with someone from brunswick county sc...said marines from cherry point aiding in search....said intense air and ground search ongoing...showed numerous helicopters in the air~....hopefully that is happening in different places~

Don't like the sound of that. I hope there's no evidence to show that she's been out in the elements since Sunday night. It's been bloody cold.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2002

Well, if she has been out in the elements that long, the chances that hypothermia have set in are pretty high.

I was thinking about that last night: if she weren't injured, would she have enough wilderness survival skills to know what to do? Warmth and water would be the priorities . . .

Sheriff: Kidnapping Victim Seen With Fugitives In N.C.

POSTED: 4:23 p.m. EST November 20, 2002 UPDATED: 4:32 p.m. EST November 20, 2002

SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Brunswick County Sheriff Ronald Hewett said Wednesday that two men who escaped from a Kentucky jail were seen in Brunswick County last week with a woman kidnapped in South Carolina.

Hewett said he's hopeful the woman can be found alive six days after she last was seen.

The two men and Alice Donovan were seen at a gas station at the town of Shallotte about 4 p.m. on Nov. 14. That's the day Donovan was kidnapped.

The men were seen later that night near the town of Bolivia and later back in South Carolina, but without the woman.

More than 100 people and several aircraft have been searching between Wilmington and Shallotte since Monday. The sheriff said he is hopeful the kidnap victim can be found alive.

Hewett wouldn't disclose any evidence that led to the search.

Meanwhile, the FBI said Wednesday that both men who escaped are back in jail after a multi-state crime spree.

The FBI said Chadrick Fulks was caught today in northern Indiana. Details aren't available.

The other fugitive - Branden Basham - was arrested Sunday in Kentucky after police say he tried to steal a woman's car.

The men escaped Nov. 4.
