PANASONIC PORTABLE VIDEO CD PLAYER SL-VP30 QUESTIONSgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
I am thinking of buying one of these portable VCD players, but I have one question really : Does this machine play CDR backups of my personal movie collection? I have CDR films in MPEG and AVE (or AVI,whatever you want to call it) formats and just want a simple answer as to what this machine plays,as I cannot find any information on this. So is this just a machine that plays cheap, imported crap pic VCDs,or can it play anything? Thanks in advance!

I have some experience with VCD portables, but not the Panasonic one. I can tell you that none of them will play AVI files. They will play VCD, which is MPEG-1 video, but most of them don't play homemade VCDs very well. They play commercial ones fine. It has something to do with what software you burn with and what CD-R media you use. All I could figure out is that none of the portables I tried liked VCDs made with Nero very much. I would make sure you can return it before you buy because you may be VERY disappointed in the results of trying to play homemade VCDs on any portable you buy.

www.mp3playerstore.comgo to the side bar and click on the vcd sec. i bought the "av baby" which is no longer available, and it works EXCELLENTLY ! it plays all my burns and rips.
it'll tell you what it can and cant play, if it says cd-r cd-rw, you're fine, just make sure when you burn them with nero, it dosnt say anything like "this mpeg-1 file is not of standard compliance blah blah blah" because then the vcd will be CRAP...
