Upon getting a broken window fixed

As y'all know, Sweetie is not handy. I am but was a little leery of fixing a window where the molding had to be pried out rather than putty. I can do putty. If I screwed up the molding it would be a problem to put in new and match the stain. So I called a window place, gave them the dimensions and mentioned the molding, they said around $75. I thought that was kinda high, after all, the pane was only 13 x 23. What the hell, so the guy came over, measured it up and said he would call me back with a firm price. He did. $115. Huh? Why the jump? Well, we had to add in the cost of the pane ($5.80) and the tax. Tax? THere's all that for tax??? No, I said, that's too big of a jump, forget it.

Enter Kasim. Kasim is Granny's helper, you know, the shop where I spend a good deal of time. He looks like an ex-con, proverbial rippling muscles, a couple of tattoos, baggy jeans hanging down, watch cap. That's because he is. An ex-con, I mean. He made a mistake and he paid for it, Granny says, and he's been working for her for a year and she thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread. Okay.

Kasim came today, went to Home Depot to get the plexiglass, and installed it. Not a mark, not a SCRATCH on the molding. Very professional job. He can't be more than 25. And just as pleasant as you can imagine. He said $50, I gave him $60.

And he can do other kinds of work--his father has a painting business. Whoopee!

Old Git,

So glad that Kasim appears to have turned himself around. Good deal for him, and a really good deal for you.

Sounds like a the job was less of a pane than expected.
