legalize pot

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Corporate Suckup Forum : One Thread

okay... this is gonna cause streaming replies on an old, worn out subject. But I'm looking for new ideas. Should marijuana be legal? I mean, it doesn't cause any problems, at least not as much as alcohol (visual and judgment impairment) and no more than cigarettes, but of course both these items can be taxed and pot is being produced so massivly despite its outlaw, it probably seems to the good old government that it could never be controlled enough to be industrially produced. But would we stop growing if they gave us this option? Just think- controlled by the goverment that already produces better pot than any of us, manufactured in different packages to give us different effects and flavors.....

Exactly what we need to do, my boy! Empower the useless, unmotivated drug addicted pot smokers so they may drag my great country down even further. I say we clear out an island somewhere and put all pot smokers and other drug addicts on the island to burn themselves out completely. Air drop crack, ecstasy, heroin, marijuana, etc. to them daily. No need to drop food....this is society's worst members. Who gives a damn if they starve? They'll all kill each other anyway. Then America will once again be great. Driven forward by great minds. Clear minds. Minds that want more than some GD drugs and a twinkie. Minds that want more than some GD drugs and a twinkie. Minds that want more than some GD drugs and a twinkie. Minds that want more than some GD drugs and a twinkie. How many LEADERS have ever endorsed marijuana? Bill Gates, ruthless and goofy motherfucker that he is, does not support it and he has MUCH more than any norml.org member EVER will. Marijuana has NO upside, my child.

Your an idiot, marijuana is a real drug, and its illegal. get with the program, its not the 60's, and cut your hair. fag

-- Michael (topdawg008@aol.com), December 16, 2002.

In my opinion, drug users are very very weak people. Anyone who needs a chemical substance to enjoy life is pathetic. I get the same natural high that those pot-heads smoking thier fag grass get by doing normal things. I go to movies, go on hikes, look at the stars with my girlfriend. all great things that I get more natural high than those looser stoners do. Drugs are a problem and are illegal for a reason. yes many many people smoke it and grow it or whatever, but why? do you need it to enjoy life? no. Drugs are for sissies.

Fact: Marijuana use is VERY harmful to minor (consisting primarily or neural damage that will become evident in later life, I.E. Late 20's) Fact: It is easier for children to get a hold of POT than cigarettes. Fact: If Pot is legal, we can regulate it and keep it out of the hands of our children. Fact: Marijuana is NOT a "gateway - drug" (61% of the people that have tried pot have NOT tried harder drug. 33% of "hard drug" users did not try pot first! Note: when Holland legalized pot, use went from 15% of the population to 45% while cocaine used DECREASED by 80%.) Fact: Marijuana is not (physically) addictive. Fact: 10% of our POLICE force has used marijuana recreationally within the past year. Fact: most people "know" the disinformation (Lies) spread by the Anti-Drug coalition, (I.E. "Sometimes it makes people violent. Kids who use marijuana weekly are four times more likely to engage in violent behavior than those who don't." Quoted from www.theantidrug.com/marijuana/point. Although this static is correct, it is not cause and effect. The children who have emotional problems are more violent AND are drawn to drug as an escape.) Fact: Marijuana does not impair motor-skills (it does in fact impair the judgment of "should I get off the couch?")

-- Taco Bender (tacodoblar@hotmail.com), January 24, 2003.

The reason that we as a nation are having a hard time decriminalizing it is because of uninformed people and misinformed people. Please, if you want to weigh in on a subject, (ESPECIALLY on a ballot) do some research first. Look at what BOTH sides have to say about it AND (more importantly) where do they get their information. I found that most of the proponent’s websites link you to the studies where the information was found, while the anti-drug websites didn't (or couldn't) quote where the (dis)information came from.

PLEASE get informed before you get an opinion! I don't smoke pot. BUT!!! I believe that in this FREE country, I have the right to choose weather or not to use drugs.

A good place to start your research is: marijuana.com

Isn't it funny how those who are against Mary Jane have some of the crudest language. They seem the most angry about the entire issue. Those who are for the freedom of choice have control of their emotions. They have more intelligent conversations about the issues, as well. Obviously, those in this forum against the reformation of marijuana have been taught well by their parents and propaganda to not do drugs. Maybe they should have washed their mouths out with soap to clean up the language. If you have something intelligent to say you should not have to spice it up with colorful language. Stick to the facts and not the bantering.

Only society's losers smoke marijuana. Say what you will about alcohol. It is legal. It is classy. How classy is marijuana?

Not very classy at all. Not glamorous.

Sorry, folks, but I am "death" on pot! Years ago, the few times I smoked it, it made me sleepy and hungry. Neither of which I wanted or liked. My experience with pot smokers is, they are not in a good mood until they have their "fix" each day; therefore, it is addictive. I think it is wrong to make it a criminal act. It should just be "hard to get to." As a Chief Justice (www.edwardbaskett.com), my determination and ruling are final. Now, fix yourself a stiff drink, relax, and prepare to have a wonderful time!

The government willnot legalize pot because they allready make enough money off it. When they make drug busts do any of you realy think that they just burn it up or store it for evidence.Fuck that they turn around and sell it to you.maby they do burn up some of it but just enough to show america and make us happy that they are making drug busts. And they make a lot of money from aresting us for smokin pot. if they legalize it then they cant arrest us and make us pay them money and then they wont be able to take the drugs away from the big dealers and turn aroundand sell it to us. FUCK THE GOVERMENT. and keep on smokin. later, Tim T. And all of you apposed to somkin pot, you need to put down your alcohol not get drunk for a day and smoke up instead. Your response makes sense, but still there is much pot grown that goes undetected. Law inforcement officials can only obtain so much,,,, to legalize it would be to bypass all that,,,,

IN A WOLD WHERE POT IS LEGAL: Look at the "pot industry" as we know it now as a monopoly, because that's what it is. If the people of the United states could come together to form one "company," there would be competition for the corporate (government) industry, blah, blah, blah

Whatever. I just want grape flavored, extra-mellow marijuana ciggarettes in a convinient flip-top box.

First off, all the people who are against legalizing pot...you have the most rediculus anwsers to this question ive ever heard. I strongly believe that pot should be legalized, the only problems i could seeit causeing is the stupid minorities in this country (Puerto Ricans, and some "wanna be player" black people) becuase theyre the ones loosing their minds about everything all the time. True pot heads are peaceful people who just like to kick back and sparka couple bowls. i mean cmon look at Bob Marley, he spoke of nothing but peace and wanted nothing else but for everyone to get along. Im a 16 yr old female from the burbs, and i dont see anything wroundwith sittin around with ur friends passing around a bong and just getting high- Wheres the harm in that?

-- Stephanie (xxveroxx05@aol.com), February 14, 2003.

should marijuana be legal ? well I read theese somewhere ..read it and you decide .. Medicinal marijuana: a punishable offense?

Robert Tinghitella The Daily

If you think no one can be arrested for possessing or taking medicinal marijuana in California because it is legal, you would be wrong. According to federal law, marijuana is illegal; consequently, you can still go to federal prison. Peter McWilliams - a publisher and writer of 35 nonfiction books and columnist for the Universal Press Syndicate for 17 years - was diagnosed with AIDS and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer, in March 1996. McWilliams - who is wheelchair-bound - had tried various drugs prescribed by his doctor to control the nausea but none worked. The only way for him to control his nausea was with medical marijuana recommended by his doctor.

In the fall of 1996, McWilliams met Todd McCormick - a medicinal marijuana patient who has had bone cancer since he was 9 years old and is an expert at growing marijuana and of the ways different strains of marijuana (there are more than 30,000) are useful in treating different illnesses. McWilliams commissioned McCormick to rent a house to grow different marijuana strains and to write a book.

On July 29, 1997, 50 federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Los Angeles Sheriff's Narcotics Deputies stormed Todd McCormick's rented house. What they found were 4,000 marijuana plants in different stages of development. McCormick and McWilliams were consequently arrested in the raid and were put in custody.

McWilliams was denied his AIDS medications for nine days while in federal custody. When he finally got them, they did no good because he could not keep them down with the nausea he was getting. After four weeks, his family was able to put up the $250,000 bail to have him released. The condition of his bail was that he could not use any THC product including Marinol, which is a legal prescription drug with the active ingredient THC. McWilliams had to submit to drug tests to prove that he wasn't using any THC products; if he failed any of the drug tests his family's houses would be forfeited to the federal government and he would be locked up.

On Nov. 5, 1999, the trial judge ruled that McCormick and McWilliams could not say anything about the diseases they suffer from, Proposition 215 (which legalized marijuana for medical use in California) or marijuana's medical usefulness. They also were prohibited from saying anything about the eight patients to whom the federal government gives medical marijuana. The announcement ran counter to the judgment by the U.S. Ninth Circuit of Appeals, which ruled a month earlier that "medical necessity" can be a viable defense for people accused of breaking federal marijuana laws.

Unable to defend their actions, McWilliams and McCormick - facing mandatory minimum sentences of 10 years each - pled guilty to a lesser charge of conspiring to grow and distribute marijuana, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years.

The purpose of the government is to serve the people. But in the case of medical marijuana, the federal government went against the will of the people - which overwhelmingly approved the right to use medical marijuana in 1996 in California. What purpose is served to society by having an AIDS patient in a wheelchair and a bone cancer patient locked up at a cost of over $20,000 plus medical expenses? How does being censored from explaining their actions equal a fair trial? The only purpose is to show them and every other medical marijuana patient that they have no rights when it comes to treating themselves with medical marijuana

My response is really to Stephanie the little young 16 yr.old who spoke on marijuana being legal, yes, I agree. Marijuana should be legal because it isn't harmful and is relaxing to your body, it lets your mind chill out and have you mellow and have a good time. Anything can be taken advantage of, no matter how good it is or isn't and has nothing to do if your a minority or not. It depends on how you handle the situation regardless of your race, we all tend to do dumb things. On the other hand you shouldn't be smoking at a young age from a bong and who cares if you' from the fucking burbs! I don't care if you from the fuckin projects anyone can smoke and act as good or dumb as you no matter if they're a minority or not.

wow this dosn't look like corporate stuff but oh well. why do you think drugs give you a high? because they interfear with the opperation of your cns, in this case the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. what does a neurotransmitter do you ask? well since you were probably busy smoking pot in bio class back in high school its basically what allows a impulse traveling allong a nerve to move from one nerve to another. pot also has some nasty long term effects stemming from this alteration of your bodys chemistry; probably the most severe of these effects is brain damage. also note that when you smoke a joint your basically smoking an unfiltered, badly manufactured cigerate with 1 and 1/2 times the carbons in a cig

-- John (no@aol.com), February 21, 2003.

Hello my fellow pot heads. As far as I can see we need to fix some things about how we present ourselves. The occasional cursing to interject some forceful meaning into a thought or rant is Ok. To use it as a means in itself makes us look stupid i.e. "fuck that mutha fucker". Also if you can't spell lay off the trees and learn to spell first. You illiterate people who can't spell make us look "less than the sum of our very capabilities."

-- (smokeup@aol.com), February 26, 2003.

Population control at it's finest if you believe all the lies they tell you on TV you are dumber people than I thought... Our country will never legalize it because we already have enough problems with tobacco and alcohol. They are afraid we will end up like Jamaica. As for alcohol being glamorous obviously you dumb asses never lived with an alcoholic!!! Still never the less I see no reason why it shouldn’t be legal. here is a good example of a drug that should be illegal--- Prozac, that shit turns you into a fucking vegetable! My doctor put me on that shit once ... talk about psychoactive drugs! you want to know what a lobotomy feels like? take some Prozac! take some ridlin, shit parents give it to there kids because they don’t want to take the time to raise them then they wonder why their children act up! Hey try this on for size find some chewing gum that doesn’t cause cancer! might as well as smoke cigarettes. marijuana should be legal its safer than Prozac ,ridlin and several other prescribed medications. Plus just in case you are wondering not everybody wakes up every morning and runs a mile with a big shit eating grin on there face! Some people cant stand to bear the thought of living in this fucked up hell of an existence that you call life and a little weed every now and again is just enough to keep them from going door to door on a killing spree like some sort of sick sadistic disgruntled postal worker... sometimes you got to do something of your head.. drink but don’t be an alcoholic, toke but don’t become a couch potato, smoke but remember moderation is the aphrodisiac of life... If you want to target a group of people target yourself I'm sure you have plenty of problems that we can exploit! keep in mind I think only marijuana should be legalized! all that other shit should most definitely stay illegal! Call it a legislative oversight!

-- Blaze (psycotrance@earthlink.net), March 04, 2003.

What the hell... u people are idiots, pot should never be legalized, in fact, alcohol and cigarettes should be illegal, people above have said it helps cancer, well half the people with cancer smoke, stop smokin, guess what, less cancer, alcohol causes liver problems and so on, so, guess what, stop drinkin, WOW!!! even more less dead people, marijuana is more lethal to causin cancer than cigarettes, so how does it help cancer.(idiots) u gotta be dumb as hell if u wanna legalize marijuana, yeah yeah, lets make the youth of America even stupider, half of us are dumb as shit as it is, but i bet marijuana will help all that, yeah, get high before class and everything will just come to u.(idiots)Bottom line, all drugs are bad, so the government should make em illegal, but they are all caught up in the money, so that will never happen, and i do believe pot will eventually legalize it, so potheads, don't worry, it'll happen.(idiots)

You have to love these new anti-drug commercials about marijuana. They say that pot money funds terrorism, pot causes unwanted pregnancies, and pot could lead to you blowing your friend's head off with your Dad's gun. I know you've all seen the commercials. If you smoke, or have smoked pot in your life, you know none of these senarios are remotely close to the truth. Now if you replace the pot in the commercials with alcohol, now that would actually be the truth. I'm pretty sure that there aren't too mant terrorists in Mexico, which is where a lot of out marijuana comes from. There are, however, thousands of poor farmers who rely on the sale of marijuana to survive. Yet every year, a lot of them get to stand by as American drug officials burn entire fields...leaving families with nothing. Also, I am a med. student in NY. I smoke pot..and sell it. Seeing as how I am about to graduate soon, I really dont think pot makes you stupid. I help finance my tuition with the money I make selling pot. I'm not a terrorist, just a guy trying to become a doctor so I can help people like all of you out there. Everyone has the right to say what they want, but please, before you speak out...educate yourself. Learn both sides of an argument so you are able to back up your beliefs, whatever they may be.

You know what im getting sick here reading about how bad pot is. Well its not!!! i've been smoking for 8 years now im stoned as i write this, pot is great all this shit that happensin your normal day life sux. So when you go home ad get a drink or few (come on how many pople only sit and have 1)people start to ge mean on alcohol they want to fight they black out or whatever a drunks excuse for doing the shit they do is because of stress. Now a smoker(not stoner because not all of us watch cartoons all the time hell yeah though if ya do)will come home toke up and be happy the rest of the night or eat a big dinner and get more sleep for the next day. Just look at it like this when was the last time a drunk wanted to fight you or do some thing stupid like drive and when was th last time a smoker/stoner did anything bad but buy some more JUST LEGALIZE IT DAMN IT and everyon wil be happyer an well all get long with less fighting and killing ad ovrpopulated jails

Herb can be the best thing in the world to a person, depending on the person whos using it. I think america should live up to our age old saying "LAND OF THE FREE", and let everyone who wants to take a fat bong toke and cough their lungs out, to go right ahead. the reason it isnt legal however, is because of the stupid shit people sometimes do while they are lit (i.e. drive, work ) Im 20 years old, and i smoked pot my whole teenage life, and you know what? It was GREAT. Carefree, and loving life. but i made a dipshit decision to skateboard on the back of a 98 mustang while i was blazed outta my mind. bad idea. i can no longer smell, ive lost half my taste, not to mention the coma i was in for 5 days. do i blame it on the weed? NO. i blame it on my Stupid decision to ride on the back of that car WHILE i was loaded. maybe if i wasnt high, i might no have fallen, maybe... what im saying is, every decision you make in your life now, will determine the life you lead tomorrow. i made that one up my self hehehe

-- Nickolas James Landry (ChemicalHemp1@aol.com), April 11, 2003.

dude your the reason pot is illegal cuz of pople like you doing really dumb things like that when your high and then getting fucked up while your high im not tryin to hat o you its just people like you is y its not legal

-- Kingpin (xtcpimp1369@aol.com), April 13, 2003.

Personally I think you guys are all morons. Right now I have no trouble getting pot and I pay less for it then alcohol. I am yet to find anyone who has trouble getting it either. So the question is, why legalize it? So the government can do the same thing it did when it legalized booze? get rich and overcharge us for the product?? the small folk?? I mean, really now, who's going to buy pot from a stranger when it's being sold at 7-11 legally?(this means we pay more money for it) Right now the canadian and american penalties for owning marijuana are insignificant, besides half the precinct in my town smokes up with me. If you ask me, legalizing it will only help get rid of it.

-- god , the one who gave you pot (k_mart_@hotmail.com), April 19, 2003.

ASK ANY COP... they'd rather arrest someone high.. then someone drunk.

First off marijuana does not cure cancer it merely helps people deal with pain and eases their stomachs so they can eat aka munches I have been smoking for some time now and I have not gotten stupid or had memory lose I remember stuff from 6 grade and I am 18. Now weed should be legal one of the reason it isn't is that it is HARD to tax most people will disagree with me but come on if they legalized it would you buy FDA pot which would be expensive and TAXED heavily or some hydro red hair that would cost you about 20% less or what????? The government can not make money off weed hence why it is illegal cigarettes on the other hand are manufacture and it is cheaper to buy them then make them same with alcohol but moonshine is a lot strong 190 which and person that drinks knows THAT WILL KNOCK you out with a few drinks moonshine is made of home stuff like creek water etc don't know what is exactly in it but it has sugar and water that’s all I know but there are more stuff in it. It is a proven fact that tobacco and alcohol products kill more people in 1 year then weed has EVER killed and get this Heroin and other drugs don't kill as many people as Tabasco and alcohol combine per year. In the end you could argue either way but FACTS stat Marijuana does not pose a threat to anyone’s life and most drives under the influence of pot are later found to have alcohol or other drugs in there system so Marijuana doesn’t kill people STUIPD PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

Fact: Marijuna is a plant. It's true form is a pretty plant. There's no chemicals until it gets into the lab. Fact: There's a lot more harmful drugs legal right now then pot. Alcohol. I've seen many people's lives ruined. People who I've lived with. DXM,is addictive to certain people. When used constantly it creates brain lesions. Fact: Where I live I can buy enough DXM to visit another plane of existence and probably leave my mortal body with no pulse. Where as with marijuana I would just burn out and sleep for a few hours. Fact: For I personally I do DXM simply because marijuna is NOT illegal. To me it's like drinking only with worse side effects. If I die it's in protest of anti-marijuna sentiment. Showing that there's far worse things out there legal then the sweet sweet ganja. Caffeine. A full blown caffeine addict is FAR worse in the morning with out their fix then any full blown pot head who's jonesing.

My point: You ignorrant fucks supporting anti marijuana are a problem to society. You assholes who don't understand that all substances should be legal, studied, educated to people, and used by people who want to experience the full potental of the human mind. For spiritual purposes used for THOUSANDS of years of human history and only recently has been outlawed by the shit heads in power. Who were taught by their mommy "Don't lick the toad. It'll give you warts." Well she only told you half the story. Sure try to protect the kids. But don't protect them by having some low life who needs money sell them a bad batch of acid because the kid didn't know fuck all about LSD. That didn't know that it can bring out schizophrenia in people who have the gene. Why? Because it isn't talked about. It's hushed up by the guys upstairs. The real drain to society isn't pot heads. It's closed minded fuckholes like yourselves.

For those who like natural highs. Good for you. Enjoy it. But don't take away the amazing feeling that people can accomplish by snorting a line. Snorting a line won't kill you. Neither will a glass of wine. But when you abuse either of them you may end up in a car accident. What kills people are ignorrance.

Pot could be much tastier then drinking. If it wasn't a street "Drug" and sprayed and laced with shit that hooks you by people who want the money it wouldn't be chemical either. It'd be much cleaner then tobacco products. It would open up hemp once again in America for some odd reason made that illegal. Well? Gee wizz what a waste of a perfect industrial material.

Drugs. Learn about it. Learn the risks. Learn the facts. Learn your limits. Learn the other states of reality.

Hey you all. My brother smoked pot and tried to hang himself on night. Pot has toren my family apart. On brother who was on it got his girlfriend pregnet after going out with her for 2 weeks the other just got his girlfriend pregnet. I'm not saying that it was just the pot that caused that but they started going down hill when they started smoking. I'm 17 and I don't smoke, but I know a lot of people who do. I think that the government should legalize it but only if you smoke on your own property. I don't want to have to be subjected to it. But I really do have to ask. what's so exilabrating about smoking some rolled up grass? sure you get high for a while, but you do have to come down sometime. What's it going to do to the people that care about you? My brother's were smart they never really had to try at anything. One got kicked out of school and the other baraly passed. Neither have gone to college. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't want to end up like them. Shouldn't we be trying to improve the world in stead of destroying it? It everybody get's messed up from smoking they how is going to be able to make the desitions? We only have one life, use it carfuly and don't wast it. Emily

I believe people should do to themselves what they please! It is their body, let them ruin it. Who are you to think you can give your little opinions about my life. You are all too judgemental. No pothead is going to force it upon someone else. In most cases it is that person's choice to use it. People don't usually commit violent crimes while high. The really mean anti-christ guy is just that. I bet you believe you are so superior. Do you need that sense of superiority buddy? The fact is, it grows, we know how to grow it, we know how to get it. Do you think the government doesn't know this. It will never stop so we might as well get use to it's presence. Since it seems this topic will never get settled don't you think we should find another alternative than one side or the other. Put laws on it, tax it, make it legal at a certain age. And the ones supporting alcohol instead of marijuana, you guy's are fucking drunks so don't preach to fucking potheads. There's all kinds of people out there. I have met some stoners that are excellent people with excellent characters. So fuck off with your ever so superior ass!

-- ryan (slipknot_toy@yahoo.com), April 27, 2003.

Personally, I believe pot should be legal. To anyone who believes otherwise, who are you to dictate what others do, simply because you don't believe the same. If it screws our bodies up, well thats our fault. How about actually doing some research, and finding out that the majority of pot's effects are temporary, unlike those of alcohol, which can ruin your body permanently. I am a student at the University of Delaware, also part of the Honors Program. I can personally tell you that pot does not in itself kill your motivation and make you a useless member of society. To all the potheads out there, if you really want to make a statement, do something. Don't just go out and curse everyone against you, it only makes you look worse. I do agree that it should be used in moderation, but that is one's own choice. It is obvious that those in power are naive and unconcerned with the views of the public, or else pot would have been legalized years ago. I do agree that the public should not be forced to deal with raging potheads, so make public highness a crime not unlike public drunkeness. Enforce the same DUI laws for pot, but only if more effective measures of testing are developed, so that one doesnt get a DUI for smoking two days before. Take one look at the money being wasted on busting growers and smokers. Have you seen a public school lately? I come from Newark, DE, and I can tell you they are becoming atrocious. If half of the money put into busting stoners was put into schools, perhaps then we might have some more productive members of society. So I ask this question: who are you to say I can't toke a bit in my house with my friends and relax for a while. Are you the same person who tries to control everyone in your life, your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband or wife. Who are you to cut out anothers freedom. Do you honestly believe you were born with this power? Take yourself a notch down, you might be amazed what a little humbleness may do for your peace of mind. Oh, by the way, if your wondering, I used to smoke. I have quit simply for the fact that if I get caught, I lose my job. The only major danger of smoking pot in our society is that it may ruin your life, not through physical or mental damage, but through obscenely high penalties and fines imposed by our goverment.

-- Frank Booth (angel_eyes232@hotmail.com), May 12, 2003.

obviously u straight edge pussies dont have anything better to do if u sit online to bitch on how kewl being straight edge is. Actually its kind of gay. smoking weed is a personal thing. it doesnt harm its surroundings. I smoke alot of pot. I am a 4.0 student and one of the top bodyboarder at my school. all the straight edge fags are drop outs that try to fight people ang get there ass kick. legalize pot. yeah

-- xthemanx (bjenzer2002@yahoo.com), June 02, 2003.

Man, what a bunch of pussies in this forum. Like someone else said, atleast the pro-pot people can have a discusion like normal people. Here is a couple of things to think about:

1. 1 in 4 people have a type of mental illness, and some of these illnesses keep people from enjoying life and THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO SOME OF THE PROPLEMS. This is why I don't blame people for wanting to smoke weed.

2. Atleast I question things. I don't believe whatever crap the gov't throughs at me. I don't think drugs are this huge evil societ wants you to think they are. Half the problems with drugs come from generalizations and drug laws.

3. "Yaaaah! I'm happy, I don't need drugs to enjoy life." Well thats good for you but like I explained above, alot of people have mental illnesses. Another thing is that alot of peoples lifes just plain suck! Go tell a migrant farm worker that has nothing to live for to stop smoking weed, I don't think he is going to be to politically correct in his reply. On top of this, alot of people don't have any money to do enjoyable things that you narrow-minded jerks take for granted.

My you people should give things more though before you make all these loud, imature comments.

Regardless of whether you're pro-pot use or anti-pot use, (I'm somewhere in the middle), I don't understand why you would support prohibition. On an idealogical level, it should not be within the government's power to stop people from doing things it does not approve of unless doing so infringes on the rights of others. On another level, I don't really see what prohibition is helping. I'm over 18 now, but when I wasn't, I would have had a harder time getting cigarettes than pot. Now, as I'm not 21, I would have a harder time getting alcohol. If preventing access is the goal of prohibition, it has failed. Of course another goal could be to try to reduce demand, but I don't think that that's worked so well either. If it was legal to grow and posess small quantities of pot, I don't think it would make a lot more people want to do it, and it would pretty much eliminate the criminal black market for the drug.

-- Vince Vigor (everybodiesmule@yahoo.com), June 13, 2003.

Overly enthusiastic anti-drug are the real pussies. Why are they pussies? Because they are fearful of what can come from drugs. Any logical thinking person could see that cannibis isn't going to destroy societ but people who worry too much (pussies) can't look a things reasonably therefore they have to scream their opiniuns like little kids.

People who use drugs are weak? No! most of the people I know who smoke weed have had it extremely hard in life and they would probably beat your face in if you said something like that to there face. I can get through a day of hard labor probably better than anyone here but I like to get drunk and stoned simply cause it's fun, not to excape any pain.

Long term uses..... and pot not legal?? Ill goto hell and back 3 million times before I quit smokin....

July 1, 2003 -- Long-term and even daily marijuana use doesn't appear to cause permanent brain damage, adding to evidence that it can be a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of diseases, say researchers. The researchers found only a "very small" impairment in memory and learning among long-term marijuana users. Otherwise, scores on thinking tests were similar to those who don't smoke marijuana, according to a new analysis of 15 previous studies. In those studies, some 700 regular marijuana users were compared with 484 non-users on various aspects of brain function -- including reaction time, language and motor skills, reasoning ability, memory, and the ability to learn new information. Surprising Finding "We were somewhat surprised by our finding, especially since there's been a controversy for some years on whether long-term cannabis use causes brain damage," says lead researcher and psychiatrist Igor Grant, MD. "I suppose we expected to see some differences in people who were heavy users, but in fact the differences were very minimal." The marijuana users in those 15 studies -- which lasted between three months to more than 13 years -- had smoked marijuana several times a week or month or daily. Still, researchers say impairments were less than what is typically found from using alcohol or other drugs. "All study participants were adults," says Grant, professor of psychiatry and director of the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research Center at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. "However, there might be a different set of circumstances to a 12- year-old whose nervous system is still developing." 10 States OK Marijuana Use Grant's analysis, published in the July issue of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, comes as many states consider laws allowing marijuana to be used to treat certain medical conditions. Earlier this year, Maryland became the 10th state to allow marijuana use to relieve pain and other symptoms of AIDS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, glaucoma, and other conditions -- joining Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Medicinal marijuana is available by prescription in the Netherlands and a new marijuana drug is expected to be released in Great Britain later this year. In the U.S. and elsewhere, Marinol, a drug that is a synthetic form of marijuana and contains its active ingredient, THC, is available by prescription to treat loss of appetite associated with weight loss in AIDS patients. Grant says he did the analysis to help determine long-term toxicity from long-term and frequent marijuana use. His center is currently conducting 11 studies to determine its safety and efficacy in treating several diseases. "This finding enables us to see a marginal level of safety, if those studies prove that cannabis can be effective," Grant tells WebMD. "If we barely find this effect in long-term heavy users, then we are unlikely to see deleterious side effects in individuals who receive cannabis for a short time in a medical setting, which would be safer than what is practiced by street users." Grant's findings come as no surprise to Tod Mikuriya, MD, former director of non-classified marijuana research for the National Institute of Mental Health Center for Narcotics and Drug Abuse Studies and author of The Marijuana Medical Handbook: A Guide to Therapeutic Use. He is currently president of the California Cannabis Medical Group, which has treated some 20,000 patients with medicinal marijuana and Marinol. In fact, marijuana was available as a medicinal treatment in the U.S. until the 1930s.

"Marijuana is a remarkably safe and non-toxic drug that can effectively treat about 30 different conditions," he tells WebMD. "I predict it will become the aspirin of the 21st century, as more people recognize this."

I think weed should be legal because it doesn't cause overdose. And even if it did, that's not my problem it's up to the people who smoke it.
