Guardian Angels

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Is it true that God makes us our very own guardian angel the moment we are conceived? And if so, what happens to them when we die? And where did we get this idea from? Does it say that in the Bible? That we each have our own guardian angel?

Thanks~

Hi Jackiea I dont know the answer to your question but one of the earliest memories I have as a child is saying a prayer before bed for my gaurdian angel . I forget it now but I think it was a fairly common one. Id be intrested in the answer to your questions as well.

-- Kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), December 04, 2002.

Yes, Jackiea! I read it either in the Catechism or the Bible that at our conception we have a Guardian Angel who is not only with us all the time, but this Angel is also (at the same time) in front of the Heavenly Throne interceeding for us and worshiping God!

I will try to come up with the exact source.

In Christ.

But hold on! Your guardian angel isn't made brand new for you at birth. Please remember all angels are real spirits. It might well be they've existed en masse ever since before creation. I'm not making this up!

Your guardian angel, mine-- are angels appointed for the post as God gives us life. I have the strong notion that all the angels have had many thousands of souls over the centuries whom they ''guarded'' in succession. --Like Shirley McClain; except not HER successive lives and reincarnations; it is her angel who once was guardian to another soul or souls. Shirley got it confused. Her own life is just one, her guardian angel had charge of many others before Shirley. < p>In all seriousness. It's a given that new angels aren't being ''produced'' on an assembly line, for guardian duty. --Ours all have been serving God since before creation of the world. --We'll someday each meet our own guardian angel in heaven. It shouldn't surprise me if mine has a new soul on earth who depends on him. How do I know this? Michael Landon told me? Yeah! Lol!

Here's what the Catholic Encyclopedia has to say about Angels.

-- Jake Huether (jake_huether@yahoo.com), December 04, 2002.

You folks are lucky, you got good guardian angels. I just came within a whisker of getting Tess, on "Touched by an Angel" and shes got alzheimers.

-- ed Richards (loztra@yahoo.com), December 04, 2002.

Well, Ed. --My dear wife blubbers whenever she recalls Michael Landon. He was so handsome; a real angel!

Only the good die young. 'S true.

-- eugene c. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), December 04, 2002.

God does not create an angel at the moment of our conception. He assigns an angel to be the personal guardian of each human being. Presumably, after a person dies, an angel might be assigned to another human being. Angels may have existed before the creation of the universe, but they are not eternal. They were also created at some point.

Jackiea, I don't know if you had time to read the encyclopedia article that was linked above -- but it contains the answer to one of your questions ("Does it say that in the Bible?")

"See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 18:10).

Yes, I did, John but I guess I missed (or forgot, knowing me! LOL) that part.

Thanks so much...doesn't get any clearer than that, does it?

God bless~

sorry guys but I think you all have missed the point, try to believe our guardian angel is a relative or person very close I believe these souls guard us untill it is their turn to return to earth as a new life My boy when he was born looked very much liked my husbands father (yes all borns look like someone), but it seemed as if he had been on this earth before and different things he did at 2 weeks old made my husband feel better about his father who had died 3 yrs before my sons birth ??? I believe

Hello, Mary.
This is a Catholic discussion forum. The doctrine of the Church that Jesus founded rejects the concept that you have just put forward -- reincarnation (whether as human or angel). Here is what our Catechism says:

1013. "Death is the end of man's earthly pilgrimage, of the time of grace and mercy which God offers him so as to work out his earthly life in keeping with the divine plan, and to decide his ultimate destiny. When 'the single course of our earthly life' is completed, we shall not return to other earthly lives: 'It is appointed for men to die once.' [Heb 9:27.] There is no 'reincarnation' after death."

After we die, our souls go to heaven, to hell, or to purgatory (and from there to heaven). They never are "re-used" in new human bodies nor as new angels (guardian or otherwise).

God bless you.
John

It appears that the last time someone posted a response was on my birthday in 2003. I don't have an answer, but I have met my gaurdian angel before. I used to tell my mother about him all the time, when I was younger. His name is Kelly, and he was always preceeded by the smell of apple pie before he would visit with me. I grew up, and walked away from my faith for some time and lost touch of him. I don't know the answers to the questions, but I do know angels are real. Just ask a child.......much love The Joker.

Of course guardian angels are real, and of course children can see them - anyone with simple faith - the kind of faith that isn't occluded with high-sounding sophisms dressed up as "sophisticated theology" will naturally believe that God can allow messengers to appear when needed.

That's the key idea: "when needed". Most of the time and for most people guardian angels don't appear - at least not as "angels". But there are millions of ways for God's messages to be delivered via these celestial "messengers" (Angelos: greek for "messenger" or "news bearer" thus "Evangelization"= Eu + angel, good news).

Most of the time angels inspire our thoughts and support our emotions and moods. They may tip the scales in our minds and wills towards choosing the good and rejecting the evil. Think of all the choices we make "on a lark" for no particular reason...yet which puts us in contact with some stranger and allows us to say or do something kind or charitable to them... in a real sense WE are helped to be messengers of God's love and mercy by the agency of our angels.

Countless times while driving angels may inspire us to take one more look at the mirror - only to see the title "Peterbuilt" filling it! How many times would I have been creamed by a cement truck had I not re-checked those mirrors! But what "made me" look at them again? I think it was my guardian angel.

Catholics realize that being in "the state of grace" is not a static, boring existence, anymore than peacetime is boring compared with running for one's life through a war zone. No. Being in the state of friendship with God means we are in friendship with every sentient being "on his side" and indeed the whole of creation.

Being in his Grace means we are part of the "Great Dance" or celebration, surrounded by friends near and far. Ecclesiae (church) happens when souls enter the great communio (communion in Christ through the Holy Spirit).

WE HAVE ANGELS: I stumbled on to this site for the first time, surfing as usual during downtime at work- to search for answers - can never find any. First, I am not a religiously educated man you should know- (although we have blessed crosses and bibles all around our home) and don't even go to church but love life and believe God is in the heart- we try to be good to all living things. My wife was in a Hospital ICU for several months, years ago and crossed over- survived and her description is breathtaking. They said we could never have children and we did - born early and spent some time in the NICU. Sorry for keeping the details sketchy and for the fake e-mail address (I will check this site again if anyone would please respond - seriously because this is not a joke I swear to all of you).

When our child came home our child would always laugh and talk to thin air. Our child is a few years old now and for the last 2 years, angels - yes actual winged angels, appear in photos with our child as well as on video. We call to them and they come- (but they play with our child all day long- in the store strangers look at our child weird for laughing and playing at nothing) - they often appear in pictures without invitation (1 out of 10 photos is the average). We also discovered small ones on our child's birth video - before and after. They are always around our child - we have over 30 hours of video taken of hundreds of actual angels. (Aside from a scientist and his people, we have maybe 5 family members and three close friends who are keeping our secret.) Sometimes the angels are playful and even tickle our arm or feet. On camera, they can be the size of a quarter, or a small bird, and they have been as large as four feet long on video and 8 feet tall on a still photo. And they are not always with wings - they can make beautiful shapes- have no boundaries or limits. (Yes - your heart jumps in fright when you see the footage - or when looking in the viewfinder but then you are amazed at the beauty- especially to replay in slow motion) We also have beautiful baseball sized Orbs which float from our child and off screen. This is real - we have started working with a famous scientist (just for answers) but I am not confident that that person's heart is in the right place (the scientist's career, publicity, and book deals seem to take precedence.) Our angels are very good - they have done things for us which have protected us. I can't go into all of it here - but it has been established - these are not ghosts, etc. or anything bad so please don't go there (been through too many experiments already). I am certain this has to be HUGE - so important for mankind. We recently revealed them to an elderly lady who lost her husband - showed her her angels and she was stunned - didn't know what to think but started believing in God and heaven. Today I contacted a Priest to tell him our story and was amazed by the lack of enthusiasm on the phone... I felt this miracle was being disrespected (granted he hasn't seen any proof yet) but here we are finally reaching out on a religious sense. We have traveled out of the country and to different states on vacation and have gotten them everywhere on camera -any time of day as long as our child is there. Yes - we are discreet and protective and I am shocked at myself for revealing this on the internet but after many dead ends feel there has to be someone of great faith here to help provide some answers or suggestions/ advice - or refer us to someone of great faith - like the Pope or something - I am very serious- who may know more. Please search your heart and use your faith - this is real. Please really think about it - I know how this sounds -we are very normal people- but if it happened to you who would you turn to and what would you write? We need help & answers because we feel this is so huge for all of us. We can't find anyone as of yet. A last note to whoever keeps this site: would you please delete this Post if it should receive any negative response or if it's been Posted for 6 months. Thank you everyone.

You might post a few of your pictures online. A picture is worth a thousand words. I for one would be most interested in seeing them.

-- Paul M. (PaulCyp@cox.net), September 10, 2004.

Kiwi, if your childhood prayer was the same as mine, it was:

Angel of God, my guardian dear

To whom God's love commits me here

Ever this day be at my side

To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Searching for help,

Don't be put off those that don't believe you. At times, God works in ways that are not understood by most people. He also bestows miracles upon people who need help in attaining belief and trust in in Him.

Please also understand that many people make false claims, especially on the internet. And in the established religions, especially Catholicism, a primary concern of our spiritual leaders is to protect our members from those people who make false claims.

You may want to consider sharing your secret with other people than whom you have contacted. What would be better is to share it with at least two or three different scientists, who have no connection to each other. If your evidence is genuine, these different scientists will compete with each other to publicize your findings.

Also, if you find that this is a totally unexplainable phenomena, realize that this is s a gift from God to you and your family. God is reaching out to you personally because he wants you to try and understand His mystery, and His purpose for you. You will find the answers to these things through the Catholic church.

Response to Searching-for-help:

Since you have already determined that these are good angels I'm not sure what help you are looking for. If you just want to get your story out then contact the National Enquirer. They'd love to print a story like yours and they do have credibility.

If you want to convince the world beyond any reasonable doubt that these angels do indeed exist then contact CSICOP (Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal). Here's their website: www.csicop.org If you pass muster with them then even I will believe you. ;)

Thank you all for respondng. Steve: I am sorry- if "Kiwi" - if that was a response to me, although it was very nice- I didn't get the reference - not who you think I am/ we are.

Pat Delaney: I went to your site to find out more about you but it was down. Your faith is strong... there was no hesitancy in your positive response... thank you for being there... and for all of us.

With every dead end the responsibility builds. I wanted to at least get back to you. Thanks again.

-- (SearchForAnswers@xxxxx.com), September 13, 2004.

Don't be such an egotist, "Search for answers" (are you also "Search for help"?). When I say "Kiwi" it means I'm replying to Kiwi. When I reply to you I use your name/s. And the Forum rules forbid anyone using two different names in the same thread.

And why do you want your post deleted if it receives any negative response or if it's six months old? If you think you've got such a solidly proven story it should withstand any criticism. And if I had such a wonderful true story to tell I'd want to proclaim it to everyone and leave it recorded as long as possible. But you seem more reminiscent of a "con" man who changes his name and his "miraculous" story every six months and hides all evidence of his previous "amazing true stories" once they are proven false.
