Greetings,

Though we cannot know the exact details for certain, we *do* know Philip had several wives, some of whom had children. If memory serves:

Wife Audata of Illyria, daughter Cynane (who later went to war)

Wife Phila of the house of Elimiotis

Wife Myrtale aka Olympiada, of Epirus, son Alexander, daughter Kleopatra (who later married Alexander of Epirus, her uncle)

Mistress Philinna of Larissa, son Philip Arrhidaeus, killed some time after the death of ALexander

Mistress Nicesipolis of Pherae, daughter Thessalonice?

Wife Eurydice(Cleopatra), possible daughter Europa, possible son Karanus (both would have died at Alexander's succession, as this was the marriage that broke the peace in Philip's house)

Possible wife Meda, no known issue

Cynane, older than Alexander, was known for her fighting skills; she continued the tradtiions of the women from her homelands, has an interesting though brief history- you can read about her in "The Women of Macedonia" by Beth Carney.

Europa was killed, supposedly by Olympiada, after Alexander's succession

Thessalonice married Cassander

And of course, the rumour has persisted that Ptolemy, son of Lagus, later ruler of Egypt, was Philip's bastard son.

Regards, Sikander

While I can't find any mention of siblings in the references I checked, it would be inadvisable to rule them out... girl children didn't rate very highly in ancient Macedonia or anywhere else in the Mediterranean world for that matter. And there's always a chance for some half-siblings related to Alexander through Phillip. Wild oats, you know. Very popular among both kings and military men.
