All I know is body was found off I-85 in Cherokee County, between Spartanburg and the NC line, and it could be either of the two women abducted by Fulks and Basham. Autopsy either imminent or underway.

Human Remains Found Near I-85

News Channel 7 - Spartanburg

Dec 10, 2002

Police are trying to indentify the remains of a woman found on the side of Interstate 85 Tuesday morning. State DOT employees made the discovery while working along the interstate near the 104 mile marker, not far from the North Carolina state line.

The Cherokee County coroner says the body appears to be that of a woman, and may have been there for at least a month. Investigators believe the woman's body was just dumped along the side of 85. Detectives aren't sure yet how the woman died.

The remains have been sent to the state Crime Lab to see if investigators there can help shed any light on the case.

DOT Worker Finds Human Remains Beside I-85

Cherokee County Investigators Believe Decomposed Body Is Female

POSTED: 12:35 p.m. EST December 10, 2002 UPDATED: 4:51 p.m. EST December 10, 2002

BLACKSBURG, S.C. -- A Department of Transportation worker clearing limbs and brush left by last week's ice storm found human remains Tuesday morning in a ditch along Interstate 85 in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton said that investigators believe the remains are those of a woman.

The Sheriff's Office will send the remains to a pathologist to make sure they belong to a female and to determine the person's race, approximate age and cause of death.

Investigators will compare this information against missing persons reports from South Carolina and neighboring states.

The worker found the body inside a blue plastic box on the northbound side of I-85, between mile markers 104 and 105 just north of Blacksburg.

Investigators said that they believe someone threw the body out of vehicle and over the guardrail.

Blanton said that the remains were badly decomposed and that they could have been by the roadside for months.

"If it wasn't for the DOT worker, it could've been there for several years," Blanton told News 4. "I mean, it's close to things, but it's just not close to where you would ... see unless you got out and looked over the guardrail."

Troopers blocked off one lane of traffic in the area while investigators removed the body and searched the area.

Two Comments: I think they'll eventually find several bodies, unrelated to this case with all the searching they're doing.

Two, there was a burned car with a body of a woman in the trunk found Yesterday (?) in Youngstown (OH). They believe the woman is a missing woman from Cols., but this story stuck me because I was connecting Samatha's burned car in W.VA and Youngstown isn't that far away. I'll try to find an article if I get more time to search. It was on our TV news (www.wcmh4.com)

I wouldn't think it would take very long to determine if it was either Alice or Samantha. At least, I'm assuming the families have already provided information to the authorities to help in identification should their bodies be found.

Coulda been a cheap southern funeral...

From the description of the blue plastic, I don't think it's either Samantha or Alice. It's someone, though -- another unsolved crime.

WBTW

Body Likely Not Donovan

Most likely, a body found in the Upstate Tuesday is not Alice Donovan. Police have been looking for Donovan for about a month ever since she was abducted from a Cconway Wal-Mart. Cherokee County’s coroner told News13 one big reason he feels it's not Alice Donovan is because he estimates the woman has been dead since early summer. Donovan has been missing a few weeks, since November 14th. The remains have been sent to the state crime lab for identification.
