What was David Rosenhan's study?
-- Maia Dawn (maiababygirl11@yahoo.com), December 12, 2002
His study was published as 'On being sane in insane places'. Basically, he and a number of other volunteers went to a mental institution, and got admitted on vague complaints. His description of the inside of asylums spawned a long discussion (also about the method Rosenhan used), and may have led to reforms in diagnostic standards. I like to think that this study did to the scientific community what _One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest_ did to public perception of mental institutions.
