Does anyone know the official date of the last train to run betwen Norlina and Petersburg and when the last of that track was removed?

They did run one more train,on new years eve that left Raleigh at 1030 and arrived at Petersburg around 100am,so they could get a tax write off for the new year.It was 1 engine and 10 MofW cars.I saw it go through Paschall at 1155pm.After that it ripped up by some of the guys I work with today.

The last Amtrak Silver Star ran on this segment Oct. 25, 1986. I believe through freights had already been taken off by that date. I don't have the exact date the track was removed, but I think it was not finished until spring of 1987. Thus it's possible that work trains or other such movements ran through after Oct. 25.
