Translation of Vians work

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Boris Vian : One Thread

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me... As part of my degree in languages I need to do an extensive translation project. The rubrique is to translate roughly 2-3000 words of a text with a translators introduction of no more than 4000 words. The more challenging the text, the more it will appeal to my university!

I have decided that Boris Vian would be an interesting author to translate and have made a short list of works that seem suitable. If anyone has any suggestions of other works, or general advice, it would be much appreciated.

My short list so far is: Les morts ont tous le meme peau L'Automne à Pékin Le Loup Garen Les Fourmis Les vies paralleles Le ratichon Baigneur Manuel de Saint germain des près

Thanking you in advance for any help, Ollie

Hi Ollie,

Of the ones you have mentioned, I would be recommending Automne - it seems the most difficult and yet rewarding - it was a very "pataphysical" novel, it seems. The beginning is loaded with references. Look at my review of Alistair Rolls on thwes site http:// www.toadshow.com.au/rob/vian/vian.htm Also Herbe Rouge would be great.
