Market Street Photo

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

We have an old photo old my uncle in U.S. army uniform. We think it's on Market Street (SF) and maybe taken early 1940's by one of the downtown street photographers. Overhead is a sign "Cochrane and Palm Billiards". Can anyone pinpoint the location? Also, what was the photographic process which brought such excellant results and so quickly?

Their address was at 924 Market Street ( that would be between about 5th or 6th Street).

Aloha:

Location sounds about right. You had to walk up a flight a stairs to get to the joint. It was a nice seedy place.

The place was renovated again as a poolroom. It is now called Hollywood Billiards. I listened to alot of oldtimers telling stories of the layout of the place. There must have been alot of wonderful stories and money lost/won there. Sigh, the good old days! If you have any picts that you can email me I would be greatly appreciated!
