At the turn of the century, many drugs were made illegal when a mood of temperance swept the nation. In 1914, Congress passed the Harrison Act, banning opiates and cocaine. Alcohol prohibition quickly followed, and by 1918 the U.S. was officially a "dry" nation. That did not mean, however, an end to drug use. It meant that, suddenly, people were arrested and jailed for doing what they had previously done without government interference. Prohibition also meant the emergence of a black market, operated by criminals and marked by violence.

In 1933, because of concern over widespread organized crime, police corruption and violence, the public demanded repeal of alcohol prohibition and the return of regulatory power to the states. Most states immediately replaced criminal bans with laws regulating the quality, potency and commercial sale of alcohol; as a result, the harms associated with alcohol prohibition disappeared.

In the 1960's my grand mother was being prescribe Cannibis Indica in a cone form. She use to light up the cone ( like an incense cone )in an ash tray and put a towel over her head and the ash tray and inhale the smoke. This was used to stop an asthma attack .

It worked fine , but was out lawed. The sythetic replacement of the Cannabis Indica didn't help nearly as well and a lot of times the asthma attack led to her being brought to a hospital.

There was also severe side affects from the synthetic replacement.

More accurate question: does the government ever tell the truth?

-- Earthmama (earthmama48@yahoo.com), December 24, 2002.

Accuracy is a far reach away from a man who's been breathing in 2nd hand cannabis smoke since he's 2 years old. At least I was doing it legally .

That was a joke , In reality , if anyone remembers Dr. Carl Sagan and the Cosmos series , Carl has admitted before he died to being an every day cannabis user. Yep . Dr. Carl Sagan was a dammed pot head .He actually said some of his best works that he's known for was done while smoking pot . Was society better off with this man in prison ? He smoked every day. A repeat offender . 3 stikes your out policy.

I wonder if there are any other minds like Carl Sagans that are wasting away in prison right now for a pot crime ?

Get out, Steve!! Are you funnin' us? Documentation please!

-- Earthmama (earthmama48@yahoo.com), December 25, 2002.

I can't give documentation . Old grandma died years ago . But it is a true story. And I used to be with grandma on them cold winter days when the apartment was all closed up and grandma would inhale her cannabis .

All I could get documentation on is Cal Sagan .

But the way I see documentation . I picture a Native American hunting on some land and a european settler come over and say hey dude you can hunt here it's my land. And the native saying " your land , what makes you hink you could own the land ? " And the european pulling out a worth-less piece of paper with some words on it saying it is so .

Carl Sagan knew alot of neat stuff like time metting space equals matter or is it the opposite way around ? But he said there are no signs of extraterestrial life coming to Earth from somewhere else . To this I say Carl you should have put the pipe down once in a while and took a walk outside on a clear night and looked up .He' could have even brought his pipe with him .

Legal to Drive Under Influence of MJ in Idaho

On Monday, January 14, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that driving under the influence of marijuana in Idaho is perfectly legal, as along as one can pass a sobriety test and they're not driving erratically.

Idaho law states that it's illegal to drive under the influence of narcotics, but marijuana isn't considered to be a narcotic under Idaho law.

The ruling overturns the impaired driving conviction of Matthew Patzer. Patzer, 21, was stopped in 1998 for a minor vehicle maintenance violation and ultimately confessed that he had smoked marijuana at a party he'd just left. Although he wasn't driving erratically and passed two field sobriety tests, police charged Patzer with driving while impaired.

The 3-member appeals panel stated "Given the distinction drawn by the statute, there is no basis to conclude that impairment may be presumed upon admission of use of a non-narcotic drug," the appeals court wrote.

Idaho officials are expected to appeal the Circuit Court's decision, possibly taking the case to the Supreme Court.

Carl Sagan wrote "Cosmo" and "Contact" while stoned..I find that absolutely incredible..I mean just think! what kind of greatness could Bill Clinton have achieved if only he had inhaled!!!

-- Jim (macnoid@hotmail.com), April 24, 2003.

Hey Jim! Don't you think slickwilly attained a position of notority that has been unmatched by anybody in the oval office before--or after? He brought, singlehandly, the public knowledge of immoral, if not illegal, gutter actions that usually is kept in dark places away from civilized people. Yeah, I think you're right about just what he would've accomplished if only he HAD inhaled!!! Maybe he could've given the entire country to the chinese instead of just a few military bases and high security sites.

Hey fred , all Clinton gave the Chinese was ,a box of Tarot cards Nancy Reagan left in the White house and the location of all the Republican country clubs in the USA.. Clinton did tell the Chinese that's these were strategic nuclear missile sites that had war heads aimed at China.

Clinton was a politician , which means he was a compulsive liar.
