Vatican terms war against Iraq as aggression

VATICAN CITY, Dec 17: A senior Vatican prelate on Tuesday condemned any so-called "preventive war" against Iraq as "aggression".

Archbishop Renato Martino, who heads the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said: "Preventive war is a war of aggression and does not come under the definition of a just war."

Martino was referring to the current US military build-up for a possible war with Iraq, which has been labelled a "preventive war" by US officials, including President George W. Bush.

The prelate, the Holy See's former representative at the United Nations, where it has observer status, made the comments as he presented Pope John Paul II's message for World Peace Day on January 1.-AFP

I'm posting a note I received by email from a protestant friend yesterday. God is all-powerful and we can pray together for the removal of Hussein. Our God is a God of the impossible! Do I hear an Amen? His will be done!!

Pastor Ted Haggard felt the Lord has shown him that if a million people pray, he would sovereignly take care of Saddam Hussein. His prophetic prayer burden appears below.

Blessings, Chuck D. Pierce *************

On Tuesday, November 26, the Spirit of the Lord woke me in the middle of the night and powerfully spoke to me. He told me that if we could mobilize 1,000,000 intercessors to pray for Saddam Hussein, that he would leave Iraq, thus avoiding the need for a war. After He spoke to me, I saw a series of visions of people suffering because of the horrors of war. Then I realized that God had a plan that He was going to fulfill one way or another, but that His greatest desire would be to remove Saddam without the suffering of so many. I have shared this with C. Peter Wagner, Chuck Pierce, and briefly on Daystar network, and felt prompted this morning while praying at the World Prayer Center to write to you about it.

My heart is burning within me about this, because we have the ability to simply have Saddam leave Iraq like so many other dictators have left their countries thus opening the door for freedom without a war. I think, though, that we only have until the end of December to rally the troops to pray.

You can join the "Pray For Peace" Special Prayer Team today by sending a blank email to prayforpeace@worldprayerteam.org. We'll send you special encouragements focusing on praying for Saddam Hussein's departure from Iraq before war is required to remove him from power.

Thank you, Theresa for that post. Nothing is impossible with God and if we all pray for that, it can happen.

Merry Christmas!

CAUTION: Catholics should not be naive suckers.

The chances of God actually speaking to "Pastor Ted Haggard, New Life Church & The World Prayer Team" are infinitesimally small. Ted boldly comes out and says, "the Spirit of the Lord woke me in the middle of the night and powerfully spoke to me. He told me" (etc.). Educated Christians cannot help but assume that the man is probably a nut or a liar. Ted should not succeed in persuading a single intelligent person to write to his seemingly harmless e-mail address. The chances are 999-to-1 that Ted is looney or simply trying to get new e-mail addresses to add to his distribution list for evangelization (or maybe even a money-making venture).

Repeat ... CAUTION: Catholics should not be naive suckers. The power of prayer is great and could end or prevent a war, but prayer should be used other than through a shabby trick like Ted is trying to pull.

If "war" (actually, an international police action) comes, it won't be a war of an "agressor" U.S.-led coalition or of an "agressor" United Nations against Iraq. It won't be against "Iraq" at all. It will be against an illegitimate, insane dictator, who must be unseated. The crazed man and his armed fanatical supporters are not "Iraq," but they are the "agressors" -- agressors against neighboring lands (so far Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia -- but more in the blueprints) and against his own land (Kurds, Shiite Moslems, and anyone who questions his despotic rule).

If "war" comes, it will happen to END the agression that has been under way for years, not to BE agressive. It will be mainly a war of defense and of liberation, and it will "preventive" only in the sense of "preventing" further agression by the madman. These are the kinds of things that all people (including Vatican prelates) will eventually come to realize.

I saw somebody write: 'The chances of God actually speaking to "Pastor Ted Haggard, New Life Church & The World Prayer Team" are infinitesimally small.'

What do we know about chance? After all, God also spoke to Mary, a carpenter's wife. To the world this was unexpected. Let us not point fingers too hastily, just because something doesn't quite fit into our point of view. I thought that we were told in the New Testament to form the body of Christ together. Bickering amongst ourselves won't help in this case. Let us open up toward eachother to help the needy through the Love of Christ. Let us unite in the Love of Jesus Christ, and His death for our sins. Let us Love eachother, in the way that God Loves us. That we may be a Light to the world. Amen. May the Lord return soon.

Interesting stuff. Start chasing Ted Haggards links and you find a strong Christian Zionist association ---- but he don`t mention this up front! I am a Christian and I cannot accept within my faith any justifiable reason for killing any other person. Every time we talk of war, or police action, or regime change, or whatever new phrase Bush and his lunatic fringe dream up we are throwing stones at the cross. fellow Christians don`t get suckered.
